Part 5 and it's time to start major work on our Bertram 25, Beast 2. In this instalment we show you how easy it is to remove the twin sterndrive engines and we get our first look at the pod. We hope you enjoy.

Loving these build series, guys 👍 I’m keen to see how the ally pod performs compared to the previous glass one. A bold move I thought, seeing as so much work went in to the glass design 🤔

Purchased a 1968 Bertram 25 back in November, single Mercruiser diesel 320hp on a Bravo 2 leg. Really interested to see how Beast 2 goes with 400hp of outboard! Keep up the good work guys, very entertaining as always!

@@hooklinesinkertv I've had 26 knots out of her but with a nearly full 400 litre tank. I'd imagine with a pair of 200hp outboards you'd get upper 30s

Screws into the wood sounds like a very serious manufacturing issue. Would allow for slow water ingress into the stringers? Allowing for a slow rot of the stringers or transom.

preface by saying thanks for the videos. However you have not covered one o the main features of this boat and that is the tow-ability. How much did it weigh dry when towed? How much will it weigh when towed after the pod and OBs? You did not give the actual spec dimensions, displacement, beam etc. Still loved it. Would love to know the tow weights.

I prefer an outdrive over an outboard. Outboards kinda make trolling a pita. But, they do get rid of the engine box in the cockpit. So pick your poison

Outboard motors sit above the transom, and are extremely top heavy. Having them on a pod gives them even more leverage. They also make the boat porpoise badly, No good in a rough sea..

Does the hull extension change the boat's specified length for registration and or insurance?

Good question... Inguess so. Certainly changes insurance once you restore an old boat

8:12 Yeah right Nick, you mean the port motor lol. Maybe because you were facing the other way over looking the stern and just had your head down in the motor well, perhaps you were feeling a bit disorientated and dizzy?

I still can't believe you destroyed a top notch boat by removing the engines and drives. Bertram is one of the best ocean boats made no matter what size and now it's junk.

If a 350 chevy engine goes bad you can get one running for $1000 you blow a Mercruiser stern drive that's 2 grand brand new. You blow a power head on an outboard that's 10 grand you blow the lower unit on an outboard that's 6 to 10 grand you can keep your outboards. The only mercruiser sterndrive that isn't good in the alpha drive to a 350 chevy but a bravo drive and its bullet proof so let me know when you break the yamaha or what ever outboard you are using and then let see how long it takes to get boating again.

@@petermclean9545 You can get thousands of hours out of 2 and 4 stroke outboards mate. You simply just can't make decisions on what engines to run based on engine trouble and cost repairs if things go wrong, what about all the benefits you get from running outboards.
@petermclean9545
@petermclean9545 3 жыл бұрын
When did you guys buy your first boat. I've been marine tech for over 34 years and outboards were not the way to go until the 1996 when the first real 4 stroke outboards were starting to be used and that's because of the government didn't want oil from the 2 stroke outboards going into the ocean. I have a question for you 2 see how smart you two are what was the biggest cause of 2 stroke outboards to fail. Hate to burst your bubble about outboards not one outboard build today has fresh water cooling so if you put your boat in a slip for the season in salt water even if you lift the motor out of the salt water every time salt water corrosion is eating that engine alive. Fresh water cooled inboards not rust out from the inside out. By the way the fastest boats build are inboards it's impossible to get more horsepower out of an outboard than what it says on the cover. Also and inboard v8 v6 or 4cylinder running with cylinders misfiring will always get me home an outboard missing 1 cylinder won't run at all. So outboards are a fad and they will die out once people can't afford to fix it or buy a new one will either sink the boat or abandoned it for the elements to get it. So we will see when you hit a log just below the water let see how much damage is done to that outboard please let me know.
