ZPACK is a megawad that consists 3 episodes with 9 levels each to be completed, the difficulty curve is various and most of the maps are not huge, lots of them are between 100-200 monsters, some less, some way more. The episode is moderate in its difficulty, seen way harder maps and WADs, here you begin with monsters right next to you very rarely, but there are some ambushes with teleports or fake walls with monsters inside. Another thing is that there are not tons of secrets for you to find, usually there is less than 5 of them for you to find but as always they have really nice stuff for you to find early, including the only BFG at the end of the episode. ZPack also features some custom monsters to the gameplay, for example a really dangerous semi-boss invisible Baron of Hell with wings that throws triple projectiles, has tons of hit points, can take you down quickly and this is an arena fight, yikes. You will also encounter (quite rarely tho) the possessed Marines, who are fairly weak in combat because of their slugish speed but the problem lies in their firepower, they can take you down with one single shot what happened to me few times. Maps are designed around the techbase and Knee-Deep In ZDoom style, you might spot many similarities with that pretty known WAD, layout of the maps is easy to understand and most of the times you will have no problems with navigation. One of the maps is really special, this is the KDiZD Launch Site level, third one in this episode where your objective is timed and you have 400 seconds to finish the map, if not you are basically nuked no matter what you do, so be in hurry. The biggest increase in difficulty begins since E1M7 where this one and next E1M8 are way bigger than previous maps with more monsters, each might take you from 15 to 20 minutes, E1M7 to E1M9 feel like a different episode though. Anyway, features such as crouching, jumping and freelook are pretty much mandatory for you if want to complete this episode and find all secrets, lots of places require jumping or crouching to finish the section.

Wow i like how map builders start using events on maps such as like auto breacking walls with small room with monsters, when player apporaching them, or a crack in a wall which means you can destroy it with granade or rocket for a secret! This thing we can meet often in build engine games, but why not to use them for Doom maps too!?

Agreed, I never use the nail gun as I find it waaay overpowered. I haven’t checked in a few builds but one nail (which is one rifle ammo?) will one-shot I think every human and imp? It’s hard to balance power fantasy at all but that just negates 3 weapons in every single way besides reload time.
