Swearing is a major part of working on your car. One day I was working (and swearing) on my car in the driveway and didnt first see the jehovah's witnesses coming to my door. They heard me saying bad things and instantly left my driveway. So swearing can also be like a protective shield sometimes.

Start off with minor things like fluid changes and progress gradually. Even the really good tools you'll need for most of the work ever, you'd get them all from about €200 to €400 easily. What @chrisfix always says is get a quote for the job from the dealer/garage, do it yourself and save the money for tools! @@PlaidMoose although I agree with you, it wasn't the trio lacking chemistry that was the problem. Freddy, Tyler and Ed have actually been great friends for a long time so they've got good chemistry. However, the show tries too much to imitate the chemistry between the old Top Gear hosts, which comes forth as bad chemistry between our car trek trio. Season 2 showed that they're improving incrementally and thus this could become a really good show in the end. Whereas S1 was a bit awkward, I enjoyed S2 substantially more and I can see the potential car trek can achieve.

It would be good to do a Project Car planning video. Take people through what are the things to think about; what is the overall goal (power, looks..etc); what type of upgrades (coil overs or only springs...etc); which order to start the upgrades (suspension/ brakes first, then power...etc).

My favourite part of this video is that while Alex and Gareth are berating Ethan and winding him up, Jack is coming in genuinely trying to help Ethan see the plusses and feel better about the whole thing. Jack seems like he'd be a cool guy to work on a car with.

Pro tip if you work on cars a lot, get one of these or similar: www.ryobitools.com/power-tools/products/details/18v-38-in-ratchet Low enough power that you'll likely never snap a bolt by accident, still saves heaps of time compared with hand tools and fits in tight spaces better than the giant one in this vid. I've never seen a situation as a mechanic that actually required a high powered one. I personally used to have a full sized rattle gun (before these low profile ones became common), but was still only 12V and max 120Nm/70lbft which is around factory recommended wheel nut torque. My colleagues laughed at me for buying such a weak one while they had beefy 700+lbft pneumatic drivers that echoed through the whole workshop whenever they spun up (and cost around 6-8x more than mine did). Didn't help them though as I still tended to finish jobs quicker, and at least once a week there'd be snapped bolts or stripped threads followed by loud swearing.. which happened to me precisely zero times, not even on the little undertray torx bolts.

It might be funny for a while but they really do need to try to teach him something. If you try to learn everything by trial and error you end up breaking a lot of things and hurting yourself, possibly seriously, lots of times. They suck at teaching and I'd rather see Ethan enjoy what he's doing. Watching Alex and Gareth let him bollock things up is going to stop being funny very quickly. I also wasn't particularly amused to see them pissing him about while he was compressing the springs. The fact is that that can be dangerous. He needs to know when things are actually dangerous and when they are just teasing him.
@neilwalsh4058
@neilwalsh4058 3 жыл бұрын
Totally agree. Alright for whipping gearbox bolts off or anywhere that's not had the bolt thread exposed to weather, but not good on suspension. What's wrong with the old ways of getting a bit of heat on them first?
@MotoCat91
@MotoCat91 3 жыл бұрын
@@neilwalsh4058 this, I'd almost forgotten about those tricks Heat guns are quite cheap these days, safe to use around oily bits, and when combined with WD-40 (oil based aerosol lubricant/penetrant) can get even the rustiest of bolts out Also another pro tip for beginners: if you're using hand tools and need more muscle + have space to work, slip a pipe or something over the spanner/ratchet/bar to increase the length/leverage and hold the outer end. A 70 ftlb wheel nut takes 70lb force on a 1ft long bar/spanner Extend with a pipe to 2ft, only needs 35lb force, 3ft - 23lb Just make sure it isn't gonna slip off the bolt/nut as higher force means easier to damage/round off the bolt head.. And doing this on really old or small (1/4 in) ratchets can break their ratchet mechanism so ask first if it isn't your tool kit 😛

Addictive and brings back memories. I was Ethan 40 yrs ago. Now not much I wont try. I worked at a college helping in motor vehicle they had to stop students using impact wrenches due to tom foolery and needing to learn the old way. I have a cheap cordless gun but prefer wrenches except for where it helps on jobs where special tools needed to remove my scooters variator and clutch. Imapct wrench whipped them off in no time. Keep these coming please so entertaining and lads laughing at theirmates pain😂. Ethan swearing reminds me of me so much when things go wrong
