Old cars have a lot more play in the wheel. Especially the big land yachts from the 60's and 70's.

+Dethmeister You think 60s & 70s cars are land yachts? lol check 30s & 40s cars then judge. you'll laugh at the car & steering wheel dimensions.
@Dethmeister7 жыл бұрын
Yes I think 60's and 70's cars can be land yachts. I have one. I meant any pre-90's big car. I figured the old movies he was talking of were from the 60's and 70's. I don't know how I'd check a 30's or 40's car, they're pretty rare.

historic spa is sooo crazy. i watched a documentary on it yesterday and today here you are racing on it! " what the hellllll

I walked on the drove on the old track, last Saturday, when I went to the Spa grand prix. Most of the old track (that isn't part of the modern track) are regular roads. Seeing it in person is something special, but driving it gives a whole other impression of how insane it was. Going over 100KPH in a decent car is already enough to make you realise the brutality of 60's racing at Spa.

Old Spa was hands down the best true road circuit there was. Drivers truly feared it. Shame they went for some sort of 1970-version with armco barriers though. But it looks awesome, memories of GPL and my hundreds of wrecks at Burnenville and the Masta Kink.

Acctually this is a very nice example of local weather in the game. When it starts raining most of the track seems to be just damp but at one point the track is suddenly totally wet. Then after some corners its damp again. The wet part of the track starts at 16:20 and ends at 17:30 in his video. So its raining more in one part of the track than in other parts of the track.

The first Formula One season I followed was 1960's. In those days "following" GP racing from the States meant haunting a single newstand downtown where you could get a copy of The Autocar six weeks after the fact and read the race story and look at the grainy photos. Spa that year was a horrorshow -- Two promising British racers -- Chris Bristow who raced for (I think) the Laystall privateer team) and Alan Stacey, who was the third driver in the Lotus team behind John Surtees and Jim Clark -- were both killed. And no less than Stirling Moss, driving Rob Walker's Lotus 18, had a huge shunt in practice in which he sustained broken limbs and a head injury and was hospitalized for weeks thereafter. As Jimmy says, the cars of the time were just "great tubs of petrol" lacking self-sealing tanks, rollover bars and belts. It was not for nothging the Lotus 18 -- arguably the fastest car of the season -- was dubbed "The Flying Matchbox." Max Mosely has the line about remembering "when sex was safe and racing was dangerous" and he pretty much got in one. That said, it was an incredible era of racing and this video is one of the neater things I've seen in a LONG time!

The amazing thing is that this version is not only less accurate, but in my opinion has worse graphics than the Spa '67 track mod released for GPL in 2014, a track created around the limitations of a now 20-year old sim. Seriously, what's with Malmedy in this version? If you go to google earth and find where Malmedy is, it looks nothing like that, it is in fact relatively flat.

jimmy's sawing the wheel in order to maintain control of the car... spa's track is notoriously bumpy and features many high speed turns with dangerous low shoulders, elevation changes, hills etc. The car he's driving is old af, so the suspension isn't great and neither is the chassis; the car will feel much 'softer' and will react to bumps in weird ways due to the loose steering feel, requiring much more... animated inputs to correct body roll

How crazy old Spa is? Well, the races held at Spa back then had the smallest grids of all the major European circuits because drivers TEND TO AVOID IT. For example, at the 1951 Formula 1 season, the number of entries at the Belgian GP is only 16, whereas on the other Championship rounds the number of entries range from 20 to 25. Hell, the German GP, held at the old Nurburgring Nordschleife, had 26 entries!
