Cool video matey, I've recently bought a G920 setup and Next Level Racing Stand. I've not used a wheel and pedles since the PlayStation 1, there after I used a gaming controller for games like Grand Turismo, Burn Out, Crash N Burn, FlatOut and Forza Motor Sports etc. I'm learning the ropes playing Project Cars 2 PC and loving it, I've also made some videos for my KZbin channel ;)

Lovely race, Jimmy! Looks much nicer than the preview videos! Great to see the AI so well-behaved, too! Yeah, it still has T1 issues and yeah, there are corners in which it is slow, but in general the way it raced you was spot on! It didn't bump you, yet it tried to block you, tried to pass you, etc, all respectfully and competently. You sounded like you had a lot of fun as well. Glad to hear you find the LMP900 much improved over the press build. 2 things - 1: the understeer you complained about; have you tried how the car feels in clean air? Downforce cars do suffer quite a bit while in a draft. I would definitely expect the Schuhmacher S'es to be punitive for a trailing downforce car, when racing as closely as you did with the AI 2: you mention you feel the quality of the car is up there with AC, basically, but you still feel like rF2 and iRacing do it better. Can you go into what you feel those games do better?

Check the tuning, there should be two defaults, and it should select the correct one for a wheel (loose) or gamepad (stable, which is more towards understeer). They are car specific and under the all tracks

Been playing pcars2 again and I must say that with the custom deb files it is quite good. It does damage for instance in a way that Assetto Corsa doesn't dream of and only iracing can match. Kinda reminds me of the old GP4 days.

Played the for 5 hours late last night. I'm not going to touch on the physics or car feel in this post, I think that's been beaten to death. What wasn't as good as I'd expected was the VR experience. I have a high end system and can play with the SS (I was using 1.6-1.8) and tested with many of the other settings between medium and high, a couple on ultra. Graphically it is well done, but the screen door effect, especially objects further away seems like it's much more pronounced than other VR titles. I did a couple of back to back comparisons with the original Pcars and I think the original is sharper. I'm hoping this is resolved soon as I race exclusively in VR. I can't go back to monitors, even with the much prettier graphics after experiencing the immersion VR provides. Quite the disappointment...

Let the player pick whatever car they want..like AC does in single race. I don't wanna drive in a multi class race and see half the GTE field be Ford GTs with the same Livery. This looks just as bad as pCars 1. Whatever it is that picks the field balance in game was obviously ported over from the last title....it's broke SMS...how can you not notice that?

This is looking pretty good, but understandably I still hold some scepticism that they haven't done enough over PC1 for me to consider it worthwhile. Note that all of the pop in on the edge of the video is outside the players field of view. If you are wearing the headset, or playing on a monitor you won't see that.

It's not graphical artifacts. It's just Jimmy's ingame graphics setings which are lowered down to give him comfortable fps count in VR

I don't think it's jimmys GPU. Just look at the left border at 6:00 Use , and . to switch between frames, you can see that this is definetly not caused by his GPU. I hope that this only occurs in the VR to Monitor conversion

easy way to solve this problem is to drive like them, :) oh and i know how it feels getting brakechecked every corner even with max aggression on ams,rf,rf2,ac,f12017 though its not as bad as you think

AI in racing games often has certain radius those scan, and when there is many back to back and the front starts to break, the rear havn't reached breaking point and thus wont get to "braking zone" yet, and notices too late the car infront doing emergency braking to avoid hitting the one infront and now this rippoles all the way back. But yeah there is few ways to fix that and all of them require quite a bit extra processing which is rather used for physics.

I don't understand gamers. He says the handling of this car is very close to AC but not as good as iracing and rfactor 2...But he and others have not driven anything like this car before in real like and none of these tracks either. He has no true measuring stick at all. You can find pro drivers who rate all these different games or not rate them, so even they are inconsistent. It seems for the average gamer it really just comes down to what you prefer with the handling I think.

A lot of sim racers are like that, it can be an extremely toxic community when it come to opinions. You should also keep an eye on the Inside Sim Racing, Ferrariman601 and SimRacing604 channels to see if they cover PC2 and to get different opinions. Just keep in mind if a game doesn't align to what some sim racers think is realistic they can hate it, even if it's a great game. Did you get that T150 or are you waiting to see how good PC2 is?

Thanks for the recommendations, I know of Inside Sim Racing but the other two are new to me. Though perhaps not as good a racer as some of them I find GamerMuscle has a fairly refreshing/sensible view on sims, sims snobbery and the limitation of gamers being able to interpret correct car handling. Will be some months till I get the wheel even if PC2 turns out great. I don't really buy full priced games, partly as full price is a fair chunk of change and also after a few months most major issues are patched so you can have a better experience. Perhaps around Christmas time :)

GamerMuscle is definitely a refreshing change to the overly critical views most have. I don't buy new games myself but I did see PC2 on Amazon for PC for £33.99 which is tempting. Forza 7's demo is out now too, while it's not super realistic it was quite enjoyable with a controller. It is also extremely optimised. Generally speaking from my experience iRacing is the least realistic of the 4 main PC sims but has a very well structured online component, but the game is very expensive between the content and subscription. Assetto Corsa would have slightly better physics and has a massive modding community, followed by Automobilista and then rFactor 2 which is definitely the most realistic sim around. I don't think any 1 of the 4 is superior to the others, they all have their pros and cons. How much you enjoy a racing game depends on what you're looking for and the hardware you have.

sim racer reviewers for the most part have never ever been behind the wheel of a real track car. All there opinions are relative to their experience with other titles. It's why I only believe real drivers when they say a particular simulator feels real. pCARS2 has like 20 real race drivers behind it and they all love it. Even an F1 team prefers SMS's new physics engine for pCARS2 over their in house simulation software.

depends on how you define sim ;) some people say it is not possible to do a sim on a PC, or there is no real sim available for PC, other people say GrandPrixLegends (1998) and Nascar2003 is a sim. I would say try PCars2 for your self and do your judge. ;-) Im sure playing PCars2 will be a lot of fun.

What? The poor AI behavior wasn't just a press build thing? REACH INTO THE BOX OF CRAYOLA, CAUSE COLOR ME SHOCKED. Clearly suffering from "ThatOneCorner-Itus" to a debilitating degree, very poor at the starts (there are videos worse than this, and this was pretty bad), brake like grandmas early yet come to a near stop at turn in, look like hovercrafts that don't behave like the car should be be capable of (aka, Magic Grip for the AI) - not impressed. Also I hear they didn't fix the old ISI "next session" bug where the AI goes seconds faster if you skip the session... So am I supposed to be waiting for "the patch" or is it Assetto Corsa with night and rain? Was hoping they'd at least give the updated AMS AI a decent holler, this looks like rFactor on an average mod track circa 2006 type behavior. lol Is there AI talent so the same guys generally end up in the same place in the field or still a random mish-mash free for all? Also, the left rear end plate on the 7 Toshiba Ferrari is reversed. Giese Ferarri looks like the textures are weirded out at the back too. Bring on the hate I'll inevitably get for daring to say this.

He, like me, is not interested in the game because of what the first game turned out to be. It's not that we don't want the game to be good, it's that we simply do not believe it will be good based on the first game, the absolutely toxic comments spread around by people like Ian Bell and the general direction that SMS went with PC after release. AI are way slower on the straights. I don't like that, feels like the game is making it easier on you. I like that when I play against the AI on assetto ps4 version if I'm on a straight the AI cars don't drive slower than mine , so if I pass them I know it's because of skill not being helped by the game.

I agree, but at the same time I like the "feel" of in-helmet view (VR) like this. It's like back in the day when we would get that rare glimpse of a camera view inside the cockpit of a racer during a race. The only thing that gets me is that Jimmy's preferred (apparently) POV sits lower in the seat that I like. I keep finding myself awkwardly craning my neck, trying to look up more.
