I start the rebuild of my father's '59 Fordson Dexta. After a tough 62 years of service this old tractor needs some serious attention. In this episode I fix some of the mechanical issues and service the engine.

Very helpful and informative Dave . I’ve an old Dexta too on the farm in Roscommon which we have had working for more than 40 years. It still runs and we still use it occasionally. Handy as it's lighter than the big heavy modern tractor, doesn’t mess up the winter pasture as much, fits in some narrow spaces, uses less fuel and is fun to drive. I wonder will modern tractors last as long and give so few problems. It needs a few bits of attention, has a slight water weap from the fan belt pulley in front of the radiator and the lift moves up much too slowly (im guessing probably dirty oil or similar in the sump). First task is I’m upgrading the dead coldstart in a week or 2 with the Ferguson variant system from old20.com. Hope you get the 3rd video online soon as some parts will help show me what needs doing to possibly fix a few of the problems on our Dexta and will help if any future problems happen.

Gerard, thanks for watching. Good to hear more dextas still working too. I think the thousand and early 10 series may have some hope of long lives! I have an '86 6610 Force 2 as a main tractor! I'll be bringing a video of the old 20 upgrade on mine very soon, just finishing the wiring. I'll also try and so a video on the lift! Cliffords tractor spares near Tralee are very good if you need parts.

Update.. I don’t have any fuel in the injector feedback pipe to the tank. Apparently, this can mean the injectors are in good condition and not leaking any fuel. Therefore the old20.com cold start solution kit won’t have fuel supply to work so I cannot use it. Perhaps check this before ordering a kit. I will just replace the aged and heater and broken finger pump parts in the standard cold start system.

@@clintonroushff7068 yes, she's always been a working tractor here (though not as much the last few years), so the intention is to keep here working. It's far neater and lighter than the 6610, so it has it's uses.

Check out @watchweswork for good review on cameras. I think he uses a Panasonic. Also, @dieselcreek I think he’s a GoPro guy. Your intro is much better. When are you back on the cat?

Thanks James, I'll check them both out. I know Matt recently got the GoPro and had some issues, but his quality is great. All the early Dexta footage was shot on a Cannon 500D, and as you can see it's pretty awful! I've spent a few days on the CAT since, I've done some engine work and replaced those hoses, topped off the fluids etc. I just need to free the parking brake valve. I'll start editing the video tonight, and hopefully I can shoot the remainder of it at the weekend. Unfortunately the day job and farm have been extremely busy, and a new project rolled in that needed to be assessed and parts ordered so I got delayed. I'll get to it soon! Why is more than 2/3 of the screen blacked out? It looks terrible that way. Do you block out 2/3 of the windshield when you drive your car? People watching this feel like they're getting cheated!

Unfortunately it was an issue with the camera. Some of thst was the very early footage I recored and it didn't always go right.
