Heartbreaking news!😢 I am certain you will deliver beautiful, vibrant and detailed scenes and breakdowns. Even if it is not going to be a full movie, it will have brought a great value to the world of Blender art. Stay awesome!!! BTW, such cool rocks, Andy!

It's really grounding to see that even highly skilled teams like the Blender team face their own set of challenges and sometimes can't bring a project across the finish line as they had hoped. It's a reminder that the journey of creating something, whether it's software, art, or any kind of project, is filled with unexpected hurdles. Even the most experienced and talented people can encounter obstacles that are tough to overcome. Huge respect for the team ♥️

Really sorry to hear that you've been struggling with this project guys, we all know that you worked really hard and did your best. The art and models you have made so far are fascinating and beautiful. Such an ambitious project; perhaps you just didn't realise how ambitious it really was. A full length movie with these kind of visuals ? That's an undertaking that we normally only see from big studios with huge budgets. It takes a lot of courage to admit that we are not able to complete something we have committed ourselves to, but better that we do it sooner, rather than later. Thank you for everything you have done so far.

The unfinished pieces will be a proof of potency from the Blender crew in the future, because it will let the observers fill the gaps with their own imagination and freedom. Sad news but well Project gold is one of those projects that will always be new, unforeseen, wild and strange... now that I'm writing this I have to think of the song tribute by Tonacios D. Yes, there's a bit of slapstick involved, but the bottom line is that you can't grasp certain things and in the end you can only make a tribute I know Gold was there as an idea like a dream, everything was just not connected and I died a little death of anticipation inside Well, I don't want to die of sadness over things that won't happen. so I'm looking forward to the tribute

I don't know if it's a good decision, it promised to be a very artistic and emotional project. Perhaps Blender Studio could ask for more capital from the community or incorporate interns to speed up processes. Blender has a great community that wouldn't hesitate to help. Anyway, greetings to the team, I hope you are well.

That must be disheartening for everybody involved. I'm sure the decision is the right one, though. Too bad because the art direction looks amazing and the node tools (shards, corals...) are super cool.

Very sad to see this shelved. It did really look very very ambitious and I'm looking forward to seeing what's been made. Are the issues purely organisational (say, need more people or need more careful earlier planning before heading into asset creation for stuff that completely changes) or did you run into some other limitations? I hope you'll also eventually do a retrospective on this one.
@richardconway64255 ай бұрын
Yes, a retrospective would be very interesting, and also instructive for anyone contemplating a big project of their own. I think you got it in your first sentence. It was a very ambitious idea just in concept, and I think this only became apparent once it was all under way, when the artists started to grapple with what they had been tasked with. I get the impression that it would have taken all their efforts to produce just one tenth of the intended result; perhaps they may have been able to make a beautiful, 10 - 12 minute short. But it did seem there were some technical difficulties too - the complexity of the underwater 'sets' meant that they were coming up against continuity issues, like for example, inconsistencies in the water depth across different scenes. Perhaps that's because different artists were working separately on different scenes, and had interpreted the implied water depth differently. I'm sad for them, because it's always really hard to accept a less than optimal result, when so much has already been invested, but I don't think anyone was to blame. It was simply a case of not realising the magnitude of what they had decided to do.
@Kram10325 ай бұрын
@@richardconway6425 the continuity issues, as I understand, happened because the story changed from what had initially been planned. Basically they would've had to majorly retool to make the scenes consistent again

I think Cent OS is/has been popular with blender staffers, I believe I've seen people like Pablo Vasquez using it, but of course, he's not in the Blender studio team. But, I have no idea what the studio people use. I would imagine they all have their own personal preference. They certainly like open source software, they use other stuff like Krita, for example. In fact, it would be really interesting to get a list of all the oss that they use.

I'm curious, since this is one of the open movie projects for Blender, will all the production files (i.e. Blender files, concept art, storyboards) be available to the public? I'd be curious if others could potentially finish out version of the film.
@MrEshen255 ай бұрын
I don't really understand the difficulty with shot continuity that they mentioned at the end. If the story boards sell the progression, couldn't they just make smaller more curated bespoke sets for the individual shots, and stich them together in post?
@hadriscus5 ай бұрын
Yes, I'm not sure either. That shouldn't be a problem, as long as the film sells the illusion of a continuous world, the actual set doesn't have to be strictly to scale.

@richardconway64255 ай бұрын
I'm not sure that's entirely fair. It seems to me that the real issue was the original ambition. A full length movie with these kind of visuals? That is a huge undertaking, and one normally only attempted by big, well funded studios. It's quite possible that they just didn't realise what an endeavour it would be, until they got stuck into it. And of course, once they had committed themselves to the project, it was going to be really painful finding this out. I don't think assigning blame is the least bit helpful, much better to have a rethink about how to prevent this from happening again.

@@RyoMassaki Dude, you're the one not even listening, he says it's a creative and technical challenge, not an issue, it's clear you don't understand how a production works, so check the video again and probably many others about film production, as you don't know half of it, that's why he says it too big of a project to tackle right now, it's not a Blender issue, it's a resource issue, and Gold is demanding a lot of it, time and money, so it's no longer viable, that's why it won't go into production.
