Hi Amina, The normal cost for Activity A is $10,000. And the activity can be crashed by a maximum of 2 weeks. Also, what we have been given in the example is that after crashing, by 2 weeks, the cost of performing the activity is $11,000. Now, we are crashing activity A by 2 weeks and hence, the cost of performing the activity is $10000 + (2weeks*$500) = $11000 . Hope this clarifies.

We fully crash the weeks for activity A here Amina..so just take the crash cost...if we are not fully crash for example in activity D, we just add up the additional cost with the normal cost..☺️

dear sir.... in the last step for total cost, you have not added the crashing cost for activity A, you have just added 11,000, but for forgot to add the extra cost ie (2days*500)=1000...hence for activity A the cost is 12,000 and therefore the total cost of the project is 98,000

Something confusing about the extra cost per week column.. Say we are talking about activity B Initially the cost per week is 6000/3=2000 But if it's crashed to 2 weeks, the cost per week would be 9000/2 = 4500 so Isn't the increase in the cost per week 2500 and not 3000 or have I gone wrong somewhere?

You are correct. The cost incurred per week would be 4500 if it is crashed to 2 weeks from 3 weeks. However, in the given example, we need to find out the 'increase' in cost per week due to crashing. So, for activity B, the normal cost of completion is $6000. However, when we crash it so that it can be completed in 2 weeks, the cost of completion of the activity becomes $9000. So, the increase in cost of completion of the activity is $9000-$6000 = $3000. And since the time is reduced by only one wk (3-2), the increment in cost per week is $3000/1 = $3000. Hope this explains.

jalena johnson It is up to you. If you can crash for 4 or 10 weeks, then you better have money for it. Crashing increases you building power at additional cost.

Activity F is no point of crashing since it won't reduce the total project duration. Always remember on shortening project is to go with the critical path for we can reduce the total project duration.
