Factory probably saved $3.50 (tree fitty) per truck by going back to single pipe from the muffler back. A very experienced race engine builder told me that for gas engines...unless you are regularly seeing RPMs above 5000K, you just don't need more than 2.5 in pipe, not even on a turbo engine. A truck particularly needs low end torque, not high rev capability. Does not apply to Diesels. What you did here was just right.

Maybe that'll kill the issue for me? We'll see....soon as the remodel of my house is done.

Yeah, that's a low RPM to have drone at. My current set up is only bad when I'm loading the engine hard like merging onto the interstate or climbing hills, still enough to bug the piss outa me. I did a before and after with a simple iPhone Db meter app and I lost 10Db between my old and new setup. Like I said, I'm done toying with the exhaust. Hello, I just watched your posted video of Flowmaster muffler install and after watching it made me think about exhaust fumes coming into the cab. So, in looking at the muffler i noticed you did a turndown stile (no tailpipe) and i know you mentioned you may change it later but if I were to do that type of style (turndowns/grass burners) will fumes likely be coming into the cab of the truck or is it ok? so im wondering when i do my muffler replacement if i want to do turndowns or add tail pipe. So does it, are fumes likely to come into cab with turndowns at end of muffle undernieth cab? I know that some folks do that style and ive always wondered uf fumes bother them at all. I have same truck. Thank you
@mossman3816 жыл бұрын
It's best to run tailpipes out the back or sides to get the exhaust gases away from the truck. I only did this to see how I liked the sound. With the wind blowing different ways exhaust gases could get into your cab. I haven't really noticed any fumes in my truck but I can't really recommend turn downs under your truck.

It sounds great. The reason these trucks drone so bad is the cab vents are on the back of the cab. The worst place for a performance muffler install. You can run straight pipes with no drone because there is no muffler under the truck to make the terrible noise.
@KsKaylor6 жыл бұрын
mossman381 I've had straight pipes, Flowmaster and Magnaflows and they all drone to a certain degree just because they add extra volume. Dumping the pipes under the cab will increase drone compared to running the gases out behind the truck. @mossman3816 жыл бұрын
I have had straight pipes and I didn't have any drone. I would have gone that route again but they are loud. I have had many exhaust systems on these trucks.
