Watch the full Project Morpheus developer presentation from GDC 2014! From Sony Computer Entertainment World Wide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida: "Our current prototype for Project Morpheus features a head mounted display with 1080p resolution and a 90 degree field of view. Accelerometer and gyroscope sensors built into the head mounted unit as well as PlayStation Camera accurately tracks head orientation and movement, so as your head rotates, the image of the virtual world rotates intuitively in real-time. Project Morpheus also features our new 3D audio technology that re-creates stereoscopic sounds in all directions and changes in real-time depending on your head orientation. In addition to PlayStation Camera, Project Morpheus works with DUALSHOCK 4 Wireless Controller and PlayStation Move to deliver an easy-to-use, plug-and-play VR experience."

To those who are PC fanboys, I think this is a good thing for Oculus too, because if Sony/PlayStation or some other big platform holder doesn't push this tech, it won't become as widely accepted and adopted by a wide market/audience since the market/audience for Oculus+PC gaming are comparatively small. This means awesome things for Virtual Reality technology and gaming in general. Really looking forward to supporting Project Morpheus and PlayStation's efforts in VR!

Funny how a lot of people saying PS4 doesn't have games. A console investment is for a decade, so people should know what to expect before purchasing a console, they shouldn't rush their decision. Furthermore, it's not just about Killzone or Knack, (although I thoroughly enjoyed them), there are plenty of triple A games coming, both consoles have just launched. And do you guys also think that Sony won't deliver after providing the best exclusives last gen and the gen before and the gen before that? PS4 has a lot of upcoming exclusives that I am excited for. As proven from the past with the PS1, PS2, PS3, Playstation in my opinion has the best exclusives. Also people do realise that multi-plats do exist, and are sometimes better than exclusives. They also run better on PS4. There is also nothing wrong with playing multiplats while the exclusives are being made. If someone wants a PS4 they have plenty of games to play.

Don't want to disappoint you, but it will be pretty bad. I know what you imagine it, but for that to happen, you need 2160p display, because currently it's 1080p, and even 1440p, won't be enough. The Pixalization is huge. So... that could be reality in mid/late 2015, when there's 4k screens with that small size. Also you need a pretty decent, computer. Because you need performance from 60 to 90 fps. But everyone is waiting for that. I hope the market will push the things faster, because there will be big demands.

Well they said "Its USB and HDMI so..." I am sure they can't say anything, because they are doing this to support Playstation. They aren't going to tell you you can use it for other things because they want to sell PS4s. I suspect it won't be officially supported, but if someone writes some 3rd party drivers (Which is likely) then you can use it. I mean you can connect PS3, PS4 and Wii controllers and even a Kinect, so I suspect it could be done. The question is if you can get the tracking and sensor data for use in a game with enough precision and speed. If it actually gives different data from what the Oculus and other PC VR headsets give then it could be hard to use in PC VR games.

This is really great. I just hope that it becomes an optional display medium as opposed to specific apps being designed for it. For example, the next Fallout comes out and it simply has a Morpheus output option that you can then either use, or if you're not up to it, just play traditionally on your TV.

You can tell in the VR played a part in the design of the PS4. The DS4, the Move, and the camera are already implemented VR and they still over a year from release. This is why i believe VR on Playstation will work. If Morpheus is at a good price, say less than 300 bucks and has a great must have game at launch. I think it will be huge.

If you're going to do a dual move setup, you will need to update the move to have analogue sticks, even if you have ONE move with an analogue stick. The Nunchuck obviously won't work, because it can't be tracked as easily, so phase out the nunchuck and replace it with a Move that has a stick. You can even make this ambidextrous, so the person can use either hand with the Stick & Move.
@pHappyfeet
@pHappyfeet 11 жыл бұрын
A redesigned move controller is definitely needed.
@bobtheduck
@bobtheduck 11 жыл бұрын
The problem is the move balls would be tied to arm movements (well... HAND movements, specifically, with the arm trailing behind them) so you need some way of moving your feet, and since it doesn't have an Omni type solution (which would be kind of expensive, anyhow) the analogue stick is a familiar setup, but it still needs tracking for position (ball) and angle (accelerometers). Hell, I may have even been short-sighted with suggesting one stick. You need to be able to turn your body, too, but I SUPPOSE you COULD do that with one of the two move controllers by pointing...

Okay, I won't deny that this funding could really spur some growth out of Oculus, but no, Facebook is nowhere near Microsoft or Google when it comes to the talent pool of their workforce or their server's capabilities. With Cliffy B now saying he wants oculus to be not just a peripheral, but to have an 'app store', I do worry about Oculus' future. Also, Sony has decades of optics, display and consumer electronics design and manufacturing. The fact that they already have the facilities to make these things and the people to do it is a huge boon for them.

God some of those questions were terrible. People just asking the same thing over and over again when they obviously can't answer. "When is it coming out?" Obviously if they knew that they would've said. Some journalists....

To eliminate clipping why not introduce gloves? Gloves can be used to grab,shoot, and interact with the Virtual World alike. Perfect to market to because they can be sold by size. This idea may be ahead of our time though but I firmly believe the Wii like playstation move is beyond its time.

I think the new PlayStation brand is cool with people like Shu leading the fight. Morpheus definitely seems ahead in terms of positional audio, position tracking (DS4, Move, full 360 tracking), content (sony world wide studios), ergonomics and ease of use (plug and play). They are dead serious, you can see that from the fact that they have tightly integrated positional tracking with PS4 (PS Camera, DS4 light bar, programmable audio hardware inside the PS4 APU) so much so when they introduced the PS4 back in FEB2014, I was like 'something's missing here'. Specially when they showed off that media molecule demo with people having crafted so many 3D models, I was confused. It was as if they were all ready to go full blast and held back at the last moment. But if people were to make everything work with PC I think Sony would welcome it even if they don't want to spend money themselves for that purpose. But for people on the PC side, there's Oculus to deliver a much better image quality. Only problem is that quality will largely depend on how much money you can spend and what level of expertise you have. I don't think this is the time to take sides, although having that competition is only going to make VR better.

Looks and sounds pretty cool, but if you need the PS Eye, PS Move, and you need to purchase this, it's going to be pretty damn expensive. I'm not so sure about this anymore... Still, I would like to try it.

I do believe all you'll need is the PlayStation camera for it to track the headset.

The Eye&Move are 100% essential to the Morpheus. They Eye constantly tracks the movements and the Move acts as a gyroscope(along with the headset) to keep accurate tracking on your movements. Its worked so well that even if the Eye loses track of you the Morpheus and the Move still track you allowing a full 360 degree spectrum to be seen. So even if the Eye loses you, you can still lool around and see the entire environment because of the Move and Morpheus. So even if it may be pricey but worth it.

ENDtredecim Hopefully. I'd have to see how games run on it, and what games are available for it. And again, if it's $200+ for the eye and VR headset, I probably won't be getting it. That's too much, for me anyway.

The move is optional, the camera is not, but their may well be games for the Morpheus that require the move. The move is a cool piece of technology, its just that its homeless. He was right to say ahead of its time, It never really had a place or a 'killer app'. I can see actually using it with the Morpheus though. I think the cost is going to be the biggest roadblock to getting VR adopted.

I can imagine how big VRMMORPG's are gonna be on the PS4. just like in Dot Hack & Sword Art Online. This Freaking Epic Greatness Awaits. but im pretty sure that the Price will be between $300-$350 dollars and coming out in late 2015 or late 2016.
