This is one of those videos that I wasnt sure if I was going to post up. But eh...why not. This is right after I got the carbs off of the Nighthawk. I didnt go into great detail, because there are so many other great channels with tips on how to clean carbs. Chances are, I will be taking these back off after this season to clean them again and more thoroughly.
As a "bonus"...I show you how well a vinegar bath works on rusty parts. I had my doubts about this but it worked extremely well! I think I will still paint these eventually, but it made me feel better in the mean time!
Check it out, and if you have any questions let me know!

JIS screwdrivers such as Vessel are the best. Your Harbor Freight one fit well - do you know if it was JIS or American Phillips? The Impacta set from Vessel under $100 has been one of the best purchases I have made. Even the slot end screwdrivers in that set fit amazing removing carb jets, etc. I also have a 1993 NH 750 and mid carb rebuild #2 after doing it 10 years ago and putting on another 30,000 miles

Not sure if they were JIS or not. I don't think they were. Probably just being newer drivers helped. Not all worn out and rounded off! I miss my NH. I sold it a couple years ago to fund my Suburban project. I wish I still had it.

Loved the video man! Super helpful for my own 93 Nighthawk im working on now. I was cleaning the carbs similar to you but had a question, what are the two hoses that loop and point down for? There is one between carbs 1 & 2 and there is another one between carbs 3 & 4. You can see them in your video super clearly at 12:21. Keep wrenching!

Nice video. You mentioned stripping screws when you worked on small engines. You should not use regular Philips screwdrivers on old Japanese motorcycles. They use JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) specific shapes for Philips heads and chances are you will strip the screw heads unless you use JIS specific screwdrivers. If you don't have one, you can use the Philips screwdriver came with your bike. I learned very expensive lesson until I realized that I was using wrong screwdrivers.

This is a great tip. No pun intended. The tips of normal screw drivers never seem to bite...and that is exactly why. They arent the correct shape. Thanks for the comment!

Great point. I will go one step further and suggest replacing the JIS screws on Japanese carbs with allen screws - easily found online or many hardware stores. It will save a lot of future frustration.

Thanks for the comment Stuart. My bike has totally transformed since the last video of it. I have lots of video that still needs edited and uploaded from over a year ago haha. I have been busy with life and the channel has suffered. I have more Nighthawk content coming!

Thx for the vid! Very helpful. Do you know the exact sizes of the screws for the bowl and top cover? Pretty much all my screws are badly rusted and need to be replaced.

I would have to double check. Its been a while. I just took one screw of each and sized them at the hardware store.

Nice! I tuned them using info I found on the forums or in the service book. I wouldnt even know where to start explaining it. I synced them on the bench, then set them to factory spec, then got them running and did a full sync on the bike. They worked well from there.
