Quick clarification on the diagram on the video with the graphic share, I don't see an arrow between the Scope and Schedule of Deliverables on the video diagram, Is it required or not?
@Onlinepmcourses2 жыл бұрын
The Scope links to the schedule of deliverables via the WBS. If you see them as directly linked, then add an arrow by all means. Note that I am using scope as 'scope of work' - ie activities/tasks. So, the WBS is the tool that translates them. Some use the term 'scope' to refer to the products/deliverables. In this case, it and the Schedule of Deliverables are pretty much the same thing. Either way is fine, as long as you are internally consistent in your usage. See my video What is a Work Breakdown Structure for more detail: kzbin.info/www/bejne/l5yyY3-cZst7o68

What is the difference between Components and WBS
@Onlinepmcourses2 жыл бұрын
I am not sure I know what you mean by 'components' - it's a general term, not a piece of specific PM jargon. A WBS is a tool that breaks your project into parts - usually either by product and product component or by task/activity. Take a look at: - What is a Work Breakdown Structure - WBS? kzbin.info/www/bejne/l5yyY3-cZst7o68 - How to Create a Work Breakdown Structure: A WBS Masterclass kzbin.info/www/bejne/hqq1Y4mChZirpKM
@amar67055 ай бұрын
Thanks for the Lovely content again, but your Video's image says "Schedule of deliverables" is derived from "WBS" but the image you shared in your description says "Schedule of deliverables" is derived from "Scope". Which one would be ideal/true.
@Onlinepmcourses5 ай бұрын
They amount to the same thing... The WBS is the formal way to articulate scope. The question arises, 'scope of what?'. In the UK, we talk about scope of work (tasks to do) and the WBS breaks down this work (task groups into tasks). In the US, the WBS breaks down products into smaller components (in the UK this is called a Product Breakdown Structure). Som when US PMs speak of scope, they are more often referring to the set of products. Both amount to the same thing and neither is 'right' or 'wrong'. There are pros and cons to each approach. Either way, we take a loose listing of scope and make it rigorous with a WBS.
@jadebridgeph3 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike, is it also applicable if WBS is used in service-oriented projects like in logistics of project cargoes?
@Onlinepmcourses3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. The WBS can be used in any project context - and, indeed, in a range of project paradigms.
@jadebridgeph3 жыл бұрын
@@Onlinepmcourses because ofte WBS are showing tangible deliverables.
@Onlinepmcourses3 жыл бұрын
@@jadebridgeph In my view, WBS does not need to only show tangible deliverables - they can also include things like events and processes. Indeed, in the UK, we use WBS differently from the US approach and show activities (work to do) on our WBS. BUT HERE'S THE MOST IMPORTANT THING: Never let someone tell you that you can't use a tool in the way you want to use it. If you have a way of doing something that works for you, in the context of your project, then use it that way. Hard rules are for people who don't know how to act and don't think carefully for themselves about what is right.

Traditional project management has a HEAVY load of documents at the start. So much goes in to the project before any real work is done. Planning is important but I foresee deep replanning if the real work gets even slightly messed up. (also I did not dislike video. I gave thumps up. just voicing my opinion on the heavy load)
@Onlinepmcourses4 жыл бұрын
Okay, there are two very different points here. 1. There can be a lot of documentation. But as a thoughtful PM, you will only work with the documentation that will serve either or both of the two imperatives to: (a) deliver your project effectively and efficiently (b) and to do so with good governance and accountability 2. Instead of going into a lot of detail, I'll just quote General/President Eisenhower: 'I have usually found that my plans were useless - but that the process of planning is invaluable'. What he means is that yes, things change and need to be nimble and adjust your plans. But without a plan, you won't know what's going on. Nor will you have thought through your alternatives. You don't want to have to do that when you are under serious time pressure.

One more thing, can you give mini tutorials on BA roles and how important it contributes to the organisation or the lifecycle of a project, I know that your video content are purely for PM courses as your KZbin name stated, but I will appreciate it if you give the opportunity to give us more insight on what BA consist of and what they should do in project management.
