Hey man, I just want to say much respect for you. Solid all the way through. Keep going. Perseverance is obviously in your nature. I know you will be sailing across an ocean and remembering that exact thought as you finish your crossing. And after the next ocean too. Without a doubt in my mind. Any professional Artisan and or Mechanic - in whatever field they may be an Artisan and or Mechanic- would watch one of your videos and immediately see your attention to detail, your professionalism, including your wise steps to work as safely as possible. You are working with thought and changing your process and path as you learn new information. You will be a great sailor. Respect. You got this.

Wow, what a kind comment to receive. This one seriously lifted me up. I’m doing the best I can, trying to learn and trying to get better. I have a lot going on right now, so the boat progress has slowed but continues. A comment like this helps me push forward. I really appreciate this one, man 🙏🤙

Enjoying your channel! Im refitting a 22’ myself with many of the same issues. Have watched tons of videos of large boat refits, nice to see a project akin to my own!! Thanks.

@wadelex70 Thanks for watching! My refit has taken a lot longer than I expected, and I have really slowed down with progress as life has gotten in the way. It will be finished one day....

Planning, preparation and patience are crucial with fiberglass work. Learning the hard way has its benefits. Glad you reset your approach and wetted out the fiberglass tape before applying it. This type of work is tedious and hard, so avoiding the do-overs is crucial for both your momentum and your sanity. Slow and steady wins this race! Keep at, it will be worth it for so many reasons, in the end.

I definitely learned a lesson here. I let myself rush in an attempt to get the project moving but it took longer in the end. Thank you for your insight!

I feel your pain. I’ve spent the last 5 yrs building a 12 foot sailboat from scratch. I find that I seem spend a lot time fixing my inexperience cause screw-ups. Keep up the good work, the Mariner is a great sailing boat.

What a cool experience you have there though! My inexperience has definitely led to time wasted. When I bought the boat, I thought just a handful of months and she would be brand new. Here I am almost one year later and perhaps halfway done... I've heard a lot of great things about the Mariner and I look forward to the sailing adventures ahead.

@@projectseahorsesailing we owned a mariner for nearly 20 yrs. Our problem was we had to drive an hour and half to get to a body of water big enough to sail it. Hence the reason for building a smaller boat. D&R Marine and Stuart Marine supply parts for the Mariner. Dwyer masts makes the mast & spar for the Mariner. They will drop ship directly.

@@bumpkin52 Wow, you definitely have plenty of experience with the Mariner! I really appreciate the resources- there will be a time when I’ll have to start ordering components.

You sure went from zero to hero in this episode. I own a 1970 2+2. Now that you have it apart have you considered wood rub rails?
@projectseahorsesailing10 ай бұрын
Thank you 🫡 I have considered wood rub rails. I think it would look great. I’m leaning more towards the oem style rub rail, but wood isn’t out of the question yet.

no rush can't be done, when using epoxy or any other resins ,its a time consuming process once you accept that it has its own time frame it,s easy to plan your work to suit, big areas and build pieces need more hands on rollers and brushes to get it done right ,boats are complicated no matter if its a 10ft row boat or a 60ft sailboat just the bigger you go the more complex they become ,dont despair weather and temperature is also a big factor that gets overlooked ,i would,nt set a finish by date ,just keep picking off the jobs and enjoy the fun it needs to be fun fixing it up to sail again

Very good insight. I never thought about needing helpers when it comes to larger boats/repairs. I'm glad I'm learning all of this on a 19 footer... It is definitely a lesson in patience. And I think it is a good idea to forget a finish date and just keep moving forward and let it come.

How did you remove the Amine Blush?
@projectseahorsesailing4 ай бұрын
@wadelex70 Amine blush removed with water and scotch bright. I'm currently using totalboat's blush-free epoxy, so no need between layups with that particular resin, but they do still recommend doing and amine blush wash before painting.
