1:13:36 It may perhaps be more performant to implement a central lookup directory whose file address each file can access on-demand as needed rather than a redirector which has to be implemented and synchronized for each file, but I would have to analyze the Unreal Engine source code to find the best way to optimize away redirectors.

I wish they'd at least have it clean them up automatically in the background when you move an asset. I doubt there are many cases where you'd want to leave the redirectors. Even if moving assets takes an extra second it's still faster than doing it manually every time.

Agrees. This should at minimum be a very low overhead copy-on-write operation, where a shared memory address pointer that is used for reads is converted to a unique pointer upon a write request.
