Excellent work on all the fleets of freight trains & diesels. I especially like the weathered hoppers with the rust, the tanker detailing is professionally done. I am not a fan of graffiti but all your other skills are tops. Looking forward to seeing you work on the second CSX SD 40-2 .. Great job.✅

As someone who unloads plastics pellet hopper cars, daily, I must say I like your “less is more” approach to detailing the plastics pellet hoppers, well done sir! The Walthers cars appear to be the only ones with a vented hatch cover on each compartment, but that could just indicate a later era than the ones that don’t have the vented lids, I’d love to see one of the model manufacturers do ones with the non-vented hatches as metal, and only the four vented lids as plastic, as at least some of the cars come like that, I’ve never really thought to check how that might correspond to Railcar manufacturer ( Trinity, ARI/ACF, NSC, Thrall, and so on) but I bet it does, years ago before vented hatches became universal for our vendors, there used to be a lot of hatch covers that used three small wheels in a triangle pattern at three points around each hatch to close them, 30 tiny little wheels on a ten hatch car and those were prone to getting rusty and being a pain to deal with, once they started putting the vented hatches on each car with the single adjustable latch that you hardly ever had to fuss with those old style “wheel on threaded rod” securing points got phased out and were replaced with hatches that secure much more similar to the way the vented hatches do.

I'd really like to see a step-by-step on weathering tank cars, especially crude oil cars. As always, you do such great work. I've learned so much from you. Thanks for showing us how to get real with our locos and cars.

Some of the GNWR salt hoppers just got complete repaints a couple months ago. From the rusted cream white into like a battleship grey. Same Trinity Hoppers they were before just look brand new.
@DansRailroad20113 жыл бұрын
It's amazing how fast they rotted. Honestly was surprised they didn't repaint them sooner. I plan on making at least 10 of those 2 bays.

Dan your work is fantastic. Model Plastic pellet covered hoppers and modern tank cars aren't made that often even when in the real those cars are the most dominant one's on mixer's. Hopefully someone will offer the Trinity 6200 and early 5851 capacity one. Those come in different shades of gray and beige. Rapido just announced their ribbed side Procor one. A Pullman Standard one was due in Brass several years ago. Done a small fleet of HOKX 16,000 and 17,000 tankers from Walthers abd Atlas cars. Tamyia Light Ghost Gray is a perfect match for the color. The UTLX Panda Bear paint scheme is the next project. Keep up the good work.

Those pizza boxes at the end to store your cars? What do you use for the safety strips? Love your work.
@beeble20033 жыл бұрын
They certainly look like pizza boxes! For safety stripes, he uses the reflective black and yellow striped tape, cut into appropriately sized strips. I forget what brand of tape he uses, but he has mentioned it in one of his videos.

what does it smell like?
@jeffreyknoop53633 жыл бұрын
@@25mfd very sweet. Always seemed to be more prevalent in cool damp weather. If I can recall correctly it's the coloring and scent for propane.

What is your ebay store?
@jeffmurphree29373 жыл бұрын
Dan, Enjoy your videos and really appreciate the time you spend on making them. Question. I completely agree with you about the realism of the kick up spray, but how do you do it on hoppers as there are many braces, ladders and grab irons in the way of using an airbrush? Any hints or ideas is greatly appreciated! Jeff from Sag Harbor, NY
@Panzermeister363 жыл бұрын
I get in there with oils and dry blend them. You can get a paintbrush in between the end cage posts and streak the brush up and down to blend the paint no problem. But it takes a bit of experience to dry blend oils so I'd recommend testing it out beforehand on a weathering mule to get the feel. Or, you could use pigments/powders the same way? Haven't tried that.
