READ BEFORE COMMENTING: Tired of being asked the same questions so I'll pin a comment here: 1. "Why don't you just use an MOS slide to mount the cover?" Because physics. An MOS slide would only attach it at the rear, whereas the majority of the mass of the slide cover is at the front. An MOS slide mounting interface would add nothing to the stability of the slide cover and would only serve to limit the types of slides this can attach to. The solution I've come up with (extended rear plate with a crosspin through both the plate and the cover coupled with a steel front sight sandwiching the cover between it and the slide) should be incredibly sturdy, but that's part of what we're testing. 2. "Make it in .50 GI/10mm/375SIG/etc" Large caliber printed Glock frames aren't yet up to my standards of safety and reliability. When they are able to be printed safely, then we can look at larger calibers. 3. "Make it in a SIG 320/Hi Point/CZ75/etc." I'm tired of being told by people that the SIG is the better option since you don't need an FFL to buy a grip module. Yet they're forgetting that you need an FFL to buy the FCU in the first place, defeating the whole purpose. You're printing the frame anyways, what benefit is there to having a separate internal component that's serialized? There really is no benefit other than ease of printing and selling grip modules which, gasp, I have ZERO interest in doing. I don't sell printed objects, I design things and you print them yourself. Which leads me to: 4. "I don't have a printer but you should make me one." So buy a 3D printer. The printer capable of making this costs under $200. Someone making and selling these is committing a federal felony most likely, and if they have an FFL and are selling them serialized as an 07 manufacturer, they are probably charging you more than $200. Which is why you make it yourself. That covers the 4 most common questions I'm getting on this project. Read this before commenting please.

Not sure if this is something you'd be interested in, but a lot of 3D printing channels have been casting prints in brass, could be a cheap way to prototype a comp that won't explode and melt immediately.
@PeculiarTendencies3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the clarity, was just about to ask if there was a legal avenue you (you specifically) could pursue to sell them. I'm surprised you don't have an interest in selling them as I am sure there is a market, but at the end of the day that's your life and interests lol. EDIT: Also you've done a really good job on this. Nice work!
@booliganshootingsports3 жыл бұрын
@@PeculiarTendencies yeah, it really comes down to this being a side hobby for me. I’m already very well employed and have zero interest in starting a retail operation, especially one requiring an FFL, with copyright questions, and with frequent government interference, lol.

@@booliganshootingsports I am just curious, as I am thinking of getting into 3D printing for the intent of manufacture of accessories and general firearm prototyping, if you could elaborate a little on why the large frames are not up to safety standards. Is it to do with recoil energy vs. strength of the medium you're printing in, or are there other factors you are concerned with? Just interested in picking your brain a little. Thanks!
@booliganshootingsports3 жыл бұрын
@@ryanhartley5737 it’s mainly that. Because of the necessary frame geometry, you are limited in how much you can bulk up the frame to accommodate material deficiencies. There are designs in progress though.

The design and marketed use of any part of a gun is taken into account when interpreting its intended purpose. It’s a trigger guard. It’s shown and used and advertised exclusively as a trigger guard. It wouldn’t even work as a vertical grip as there isn’t room for both your support hand and your trigger finger. It’s completely a nonissue.

Halo Magnum is a dream come true, as a Halo fan since 2001! There's also several canonical variants on the design to work from. The Halo 3 ODST variant would be pretty snazzy. I'm pretty sure at least one gun maker has custom machined a Halo Magnum before, which you could probably order for thousands of dollars and a lot of paperwork. But what a time to be alive, when tech allows things like this to be 3D printed at home. It's mind blowing! From a purely educational and informational perspective, of course!
@herbderbler15853 жыл бұрын
That Magnum is the kind of thing I would love to send back in a time machine to my 20-year-ago self. It's no less cool now, but back then the idea that you want a fully functional Halo pistol so you just design and print it yourself, that would have absolutely blown my mind.

This frames are both amazing! The little and the bigger details in the hanguards, in case of Magnum in the slide... This is an outstanding job Sir and I hope, as probably everyone who saw what you can do up to this point, that you'll surprise us with more of what you'll unleash! Have a good day/night. Just on little thing for the sake of my insanity, Titanfall 2 came out in 2016 and that's when Ryan Lastimosa (3D Art Director for Respawn Entertainment) presented automatic pistol RE-45 as a secondary weapon for Pilots (well, it was also in the game of Titanfall 1 as RE-45 Autopistol... but guess we won't need to worry about that one in any conceivable future). The latest model was implemented to APEX Legends in 2019 and made by Corwin Paradinha, with major adjustments to frame, slide and the sights. They are significantly different, however there are three parts which are present in both models: -the big muffler/recoil compensator thingy in the front, -mounted holographic sights, -extended magazine. Guess I'm gonna stop myself here. Edit: Also please take a look at Hammond P2016 frame from TF2 or P2020 from Apex, both are worth considering. Or I'm just talking for myself cause those were always my favourite.

Def all about the Magnum! Altho I am biased, as I don’t play Apex or Titanfall. And have been playing Halo since CE first came out, and played on PC. It looks GREAT. Can’t wait to try the final render. Also, your work on the comp on the RE-45 sounds solid. I think people will really like that it’s easily replaceable. Only failure I could think of for the comp (so long as there’s no impact related failure) would be just it getting worn down from heat/gases/heavy charged rounds overtime. I know from experience that comps (or other muzzle devices) can get wicked hot (like burn thru canvas or gun cases hot). But making something easily replaceable I think is the most logical way to go about being able to balance both function & form.

Booligan, there has been a lot of talk about the balance between safety and visual accuracy around the trigger guard situation with the Magnum, and I had a thought last night. What if you had a piece that was pinned to the front of the hand guard and can pivot into/out of position under the trigger, which would allow for users to have a normal trigger guard or full-visual-accuracy all in one frame design. Just food for thought. Really hoping to build one of these someday!
