It could also be Stardock's Start10/Start8 (a program that I use on my Windows 10 pc) It allows you to emulate the windows 7 taskbar in newer windows versions

Another thing I want to add about the farmhouse in Muldraugh is it's two entrances. You can easily leave the place through the main entrance and bonk the horn to distract infected from it so you can enter again from the back. Reaching it it's easy but it consumes a bit more fuel.

i would say the muldraugh warehouse at the far north of town is overall the best choice - it's loaded with supplies and tools, there are 2 faucets (and a toilet) already available and the entry points can be quickly blocked off with the huge number of crates all over the warehouse floor. the nearby inn and self-storage units provide even more goodies for further defense and generally making the kitchen area a bit more cozier to chill in.

Man, you somehow missed the best safespot and base place in entire game, the Knox prison, if you blocked the entrance no zombie could ever get inside, it is close to Rosewood and very spacious, including gunnery, easiest way to get good firearm

What I usually do is have a safehouse in a city and a base in the outer areas. It usually takes 2 or 5 weeks(in game) for me to do that. (With loot set extremely rare)

You don't need to go so far west for Riverside. You mentioned the farms there, that they have a lot of zombies, but that's (usually) not the case. Hoards can wander in from town, of course, but it's not too difficult to manage. I'm partial to the farm with the chicken coop not too far out of town. Easy river access and you can feasibly travel too and from there on foot of you really need to, and there's two gas stations really near.

i would prefer safehouses with high fences, best is to block the entrance and kill the zombies from the safe side of the fence, so high zombie rate doesn't matter so much. Some good spots are: - like mentioned the gated community in rosewood - riverside junkyard in the west, only one trailer to live in for the start, but lot of cars to push mechanics, furniture has to be looted from the nearby houses, though (one vehicle needed to block the entrance) -Muldraugh has two storage areas which have high fences and are easy to block. Both almost in the center of muldraugh. one near the motel (1vehicle), the other one near the southern church (2vehicles) - Westpoint storage area, south-east, at least 6 vehicles needed to block the entrance -valley station has a fenced stroreage area near the academy in the north, also a construction site near the river, you can't see or hit through the fences, though.

Putting yourself in an isolated area in the middle of the forest will most likely be a hindrance. Most of them don't even have a fence. It is not unlikely that a horde will eventually find you (especially if you have the heli event on) and your only defence would be to leave your base for good. You will also waste more time getting into areas with loot. High fenced areas with one or two entrance points that can be blocked by cars and furniture and easily walled off are the best fortresses. There are a few in or near every town. I recommend Junkyard west of Riverside - very close to town and a river, but secluded enough to be peaceful, fully fenced except for 1 entrance - just build 4 walls, block them with cars and you're set. You can jump the fence to access, zombies can't. Plus, chainlink makes you see if it's safe outside your base. The only donwside is that the building is very small so you might want to build an extension and bring in additional furniture - but there is a lot of room to build if you are into carpentry.

I usually run out of two safehouses. My main safehouse out of town that is 99% safe, I use this for exercising, farming and just keeping my head down and improving skills while I have lots of food/loot. Then I have satellite safehouses in towns. Nothing crazy, just somewhere fortified enough to get a couple nights rest. Spend a few days looting the town, use a van/truck to haul the several days worth of loot back home. Continue exercising and growing stronger.

The zombie population depends on your game settings. Saying things like, "It has maybe 20 zombies" is a bit misleading. If you're on insane population there will be literally 100s of zeds. Plus, if you're playing on the new build 41 the zeds are quite a challenge to take down in the first place unless you're a really experienced player. Trust me.
