Regarding the "survived a bite" - back when build 41 was in development bites were handled as 100% chance of infection. However traits like "thick skinned" would modify the infection chance giving you an actual chance to get bit but not infected. It was patched out before build 41 became public but it is the origin of those stories. Having a bite and surviving now is probably not really a thing.

For being avid fans of the zombie survival guide, they forgot to add the first thing you do when disaster strikes; Run into the bathroom and fill the bathtub up with water before the water gets shut off.

I do believe the opposite happens. You can use water electricity gas up until a certain day in-game. It makes sense irl since unless stuff like power plants or facilities get hit some areas get electricity and water still

Surprised the Iceburg doesn't have SirTwiggy mentioned. He was one of, if not THE first, streamer to play Project Zomboid. He stuck with it for a while until quitting streaming to focus on his family and personal life. He's the namesake of the West Point Bar "Twiggy's" - before, when West Point was released, the bar existed but was unnamed. Twiggy would always make a base there with his survivors, and thus it became an iconic location - the devs dedicated the whole bar to him!

I always wonder why a lot of (successful) middle age people just completely give up on streaming and KZbin, I've seen this happen many times with smaller content creator where they completely disappear. Now of course I get that raising a family and everything around that takes time. But suddenly stop without letting anyone know and to never come back or update anything on any social media always seemed weird to me. especially now that I 've seen many people do this. It always gives me the feeling something tragic happened which might not be the case. ( Like with Sir Twiggy)

There's a bit of info left out of these, and what not; which I'll explain here: *Spoilers below.* Level 1: *Weapon meta (Crowbars vs Axes),* currently, even if Axes were nerfed, they still pose a threat as to wether they are the best weapon type in the entire game! Axes, Crowbars, and Spears are their own type of niche which may be interchangeable with the help of combat experience. Meanwhile most weapons can cut down trees, Axes have a special context menu option _(which you shouldn't use, as it may take down more of the weapon's durability than simply whackin' the tree itself)_ , Crowbars have insane durability _(more than double other weapons)_ as well as not damaging zombie clothing, and Spears can be easily foraged and upgraded with most short blunt and a duct-tape. *Firefighter clothes* , are a noob trap. Clothing comes in layers, and you cannot EVER hit full bite/scratch resistance *in vanilla gameplay* . In addition to have large resistances, they also have a large amount of *insulation* , which in return keeps your warmth, resulting in overwhelming sweat, and potentially a cold/flu. _Wear responsibly._ _There is also a saying going around with the vets that fashion is endgame, "just don't get hit 4head", and that stands for obvious reasons._ *Unusable Misc Items* are not precisely as useless as they seem, a couple of them do have uses, and are quite niche: Eye makeup *is makeup* you can wear, and washes off when you do so, same goes with Lipstick, needs a Mirror. You spawn with a Belt and it lets you place stuff on your waist for weapons or tools to hotkey _(2 on left, 3 on right)_ for ease of use. Earrings, Lockets, Necklaces, Rings, Socks, Underwear, and Glasses you can wear for fashion, also wearing glasses boosts your foraging, underwear provides insulation, and keeping socks on can let you create ripped sheets _(bandages)_ in an emergency! *Window sheets and Sheet rope* , there currently is a misconception going around player-made stuff and light. Light Switches used to have a bug _(which is now fixed)_ that made them sound as much as a shotgun shot. *Light* does not attract zombies, player-made stuff does, this includes barricades, walls, so on so forth; I'd advice placing sheet rope curtains on the outside and making barricades from the inside. If you can see out the windows, zombies can see inside as well, a zombie that sees you will be attracted to the place it saw you at, regardless if you are crouching or not. _Light Switches still make noise, keep that in mind._ This is later mentioned in Level 7, surprisingly. Level 2: *Noise Maker* , usually the Engineer profession is constantly memed on for being the most useless profession in vanilla Zomboid so far, none of the extra stuff that the Engineer can do is relatively useful other than to have you something to do and look forward that you couldn't already do as any other profession; if you need a "noise maker", I'd recommend you drop a watch with an alarm set on in their place. *Bleach* is a fun one, you can safely survive an entire bottle of bleach if you drink it on quarters and let heal between chugs; you can clean tiles and walls with a Mop and a Sponge respectively. *Water barrels* you can craft and that is already said in the video, HOWEVER there is one extra water barrel _(vanilla gameplay)_ that you can only find and holds double the water capacity _(800 units)_ , they are metal-based and you can find them by throwing out their contents, they are the ones that usually are fireplaces, *certain 100% spawns* in the Louisville checkpoint's refugee camp. _The video depicts them as "crucial", but in real honesty you can live without one just fine, there is water everywhere, which is why you see most builds abuse that by slotting the "high thirst" trait._ *Kitchen fires* are something that is widely misinformed around, an oven or microwave permanently on won't start a fire *unless* there is something inside them to catch fire. *Infection* are quite an interesting topic. All zombie-related injuries may carry over the Knox infection in 7/25/100% chance for Scratches, Lacerations, and Bites, respectively. All injuries can get infected *WITHOUT* the Knox infection regardless, and you can treat said infections _(but you shouldn't, as they do virtually nothing)_ , the dirtier/bloodier *you* are, the more chances for an injury to get infected _(without the knox infection)_ go, blood on equipment/weapons/tools have no effect on this unless you play with the Hemophobe trait. Something to note, is that *dirty bandages* do nothing else but slow the healing time, so keep those rags on until it heals, don't waste your time nor your clothing's cleanliness. Level 3: *Wells* , there are currently 3 wells in vanilla gameplay, and yes, they have an infinite amount of water. Level 5: *Old ham texture* , yes, there used to be a gag running around it, and yes, the devs will add later down the road a funny inclusion to this gag, the Penn. S. Ham construction livery for the Franklin Valuline _(van)_ . *_Telecorn_*_ is real, don't let anyone tell you otherwise._ *Vehicle armor* is a doozy, the only way its ever gonna happen is with modded gameplay; the Devs don't want players having it easy and that is why the Boredom mechanic exists. *Bike and Boat mods* says something about "getting over the river" in a boat, but you can do this just fine in vanilla gameplay with enough wood and nails. *Debug* mode, you get a lot of options regarding debugging and what not, its pretty much creative mode and its a lot of fun. You can access it by editing the game's launch properties *or* by holding left shift while the game loads. *Books cure all ailments* is kind of a misconception? The only thing they "cure" is boredom, stress and unhappiness, you may find recipes in specific magazines that allow you to create more advanced food and metalworking related stuff to protect/pimp out your household. Level 7: *Spiffo created the virus* , Devs have said that they don't want to tackle on a single source, but rather have it be all the tropes at once; currently the single trope that is left out is radiation affecting graveyards, and meteors, so... we'll see. Level 8: *You are alone* section shows you "getting desensitized" with time, and yes, this is a thing in game but related to *time passed* , not kills achieved. Being outside reduces Boredom, and gaining Panic neutralizes it as long as it hasn't evolved into Unhappiness. *Speed demon is a negative trait* ... if you don't have the brains to use it. Sunday Driver, its counter-part, not only nullifies any chance of towing or off-roading, but also caps off your max speed to 30kph _(Yes, this isn't a typo, the game is coded in Kilometers while the HUD shows Miles; ever wondered why 150mph felt so slow?)_ , aside almost halving your fuel economy, while Speed Demon barely degrades it and gives your vehicles more juice to pull with. *And that's pretty much it! @@viron6734 I usually have a point left over which I put into Speed Demon, really cuts down on time when you have to drive long distances, just gotta have your reflexes at the ready so you don't tail-end a car wreck, though if you're driving full speed in a fast car there's no way you can stop safely in time even with performance brakes.

Be careful with speed demon though if you’re trying to stealth drive, because reversing maxes out the RPM immediately which produces a ton of noise.

I think there's a mod for that now; when you die and turn, you actually control yourself as a zombie rather than watch yourself wander around. (Think it's mainly made for multiplayer though, or perhaps you just want to take yourself back to your base with your new zombie friends)

Train up with shotguns, once you’re up to rank 5 you can pretty much main guns if you got the ammo and usual understanding of movement/combat.

Step 1: Get a shotgun and some boxes of shotgun shells Step 2: Get a saw and make a sawn-off shotgun (short range but wide area so you're likely to hit stuff even with bad stats) Step 3: Find an area with a bunch of zombies (like a mall) and just start blasting them, remember to stay on the move and keep an eye on your moodles, as long as you have opportunity to break line of sight you should stay relatively safe (read: its smart to do this in a dense residential area or the edge of some forest area where you can easily lose the horde you attract when needed) Step 4: Once you get some aiming and reloading stats you can start using better weapons, and these days there's silencers for some of them wich makes them a LOT better

Sawing off a shotgun is a terrible idea. It widens the area at the cost of much needed range. Also: shoot from a vehicle whenever you can. Stamina is a thing, and motivated zombies can exit the mall.

Awesome video! Regarding firefighter clothes, I believe only combat speed penalty is active, running speedy penalty is not in effect in the current build. That goes for all clothes.

At least for shoes the running speed modifier DOES work, once you get some high sprinting level you can clearly tell the difference between wearing military boots (0.9) or sneakers (1.1)

I learned this the hard way: When you die, you can play another character on the same file. You lose the Life&Living shows that already took place, and utilities failing / helicopter are so much closer, but your (un)dead body will have your gear and your base should "somewhat" be standing.

All right. This is the best "iceberg"-style video I've ever fucking seen. You transition between topics. You don't read them out explicitly like a headline whenever a section changes. ~~I would've liked some kind of visual (or maybe a small audio) indication on which "tier" of the iceberg you were on,~~ but I got four minutes in and I was blown away by the quality. Too many people got that "powerpoint presentation"-like high school report style where your teacher tells you exactly what to say and they all sound the same with the most minimal effort. 0:50 I honestly had no idea there was a massive meta debate about crowbars vs. axes. I usually use the crowbar. I never knew it was meta, just knew the durability was great, and I always prefer to keep axes around for chopping trees, since I enjoy doing a lot of carpentry. I never really go try fight huge groups, unless I have a shotgun, in which case I'm not bringing the crowbar anyways. I'll just use a shitload of rounds to clear out a big section of a town and clear up stragglers with some stealth and a hunting knife. Sure, the damage on the axe is great, and one shotting is fun (nail bat my beloved) but when you're only fighting a group of 4, you don't really need a hyper fast time to kill, you just need to batter them for a bit. I could understand using an axe in a big encounter, where you need to be killing fast before more zombies come at you.

I might be doing something wrong, but I found an axe at 50 some durability, and it's stayed with me for nearly a thousand kills. I don't know if i've just been seriously lucky, but I don't think I need more durability than that.

Something weird happened to a character of mine a couple days ago about the "Surviving a bite". I got bit early in the run, so I gathered my guns and went out shooting. Once I was out of ammo, I killed as many as I could with a baseball bat until exhausted. Then I got dragged down and feasted on by crawlers. And... I didn't turn. I just laid there dead with my baseball bat in hand, bitten multiple times at that point. Maybe it just has to do with the unique killed by crawler animation?

this is a lovely iceberg and I liked how it naturally transitions from one point to another, just one thing that keeps bothering me is the "infection" thing, people keep saying you have to treat it with antibiotics and disinfectant but you actually dont, if your wound is infected or not it makes no difference it always heals at the exact same rate and it has no repercussions, no matter if you change your bandage or not, other than that this is a great video!

The reason behind this is that vehicles were never intended early on in development. LEVEL 3 - 15:00 Build 42 will include animals but dogs will likely come AFTER npc's (so maybe like build 44-45?) as they would share a lot of code anyway - 15:55 You should probably mention that boiled water is the best option to sterilize bandages, its essentially free and you dont waste booze 😁 - 16:45 A mistake i see in SO MANY VIDEO'S is that people dont aim for zombies but instead they aim behind them, dont do that, yes you still hit them but if you aim at the actual zombie (have the aiming cursor circle at their feet) you have a bigger chance of a critical hit or pushing them over LEVEL 4 - 17:52 You can use "investigate this area" to help you find those (this is also great to find car keys near cars btw) - 18:40 You can also come across Coach from L4D2 and a few other zombie game characters (Frank West from Dead Rising exists too and there's some others i forgot) - 19:00 The ambulance is still incredibly OP as it handles off-road much better then any other van and actually most vehicles - 19:55 Always grow your cabbages (and for that matter all crops) a bit longer so they become seed-bearing, you get less crops but you end up with essentially unlimited seeds. You can use jars vinegar and sugar to greatly increase shelf-life (for example you can extend cabbage to 59 days for 'fresh' and to 89 days for 'stale', at day 90 they finally rot) LEVEL 5 - 20:10 Ehhhm, what lol, i dont see it? - 20:38 Weirdly enough rotten ice cream does have a use, its the quickest way to gain weight, just make sure to have lemongrass - 21:15 If you find yourself walking trough a tree, do just that, walk, running trough a tree is likely to get you injured, walking trough has either 0% or a incredibly tiny chance to get you hurt - 21:58 Sniper rifles existed in the game before and technically they still do today (just take a rifle and put a big scope on it) - 22:30 In debug mode you can also just teleport around wich imo is possibly its best feature, F11 to open map editor, then hover cursor over somewhere you want to go and press T, then F11 again. This lets you easily have a look at special locations like the canal boat, the fort, the 'secret' military R&D site and even sneak peeks at future towns that are currently half-built (waaaay up to the north-west) one of them is pretty interesting to set up a base as it has a fully kitted out mall LEVEL 6 - 23:35 There is 3 things that could be considered void, maybe. The first is actually missing map tiles (can be seen in those half-built towns) the game detects this and places wooden floors there, removing the void. The second is the edge of the map, that's just, well, the edge of the map, you were never meant to cross that. The third is the traffic-cones one wich is desync and not really a void either, it works like the map edge 'void' in the sense that its just a wall you cant cross. So actually there's really just 1 type of actual void (that you can enter) and the game auto-fixes it 😋 (if you mess around a bit you CAN stop those fixes from happening, but then if you try walk on the void the game straight up crashes as its trying to make you fall below the map) - 25:00 Its important to mention that you need to LEARN how to repair a generator from that "How to Use Generators" magazine, wich has a poorly chosen name, as you _can_ USE generators at any time but you need to read that magazine to be able to REPAIR them. LEVEL 7 - 29:18 I wouldn't say Immune, i would call it "less susceptible". Reason for this is that if you hang around zombie corpses too much you get sick and eventually die, but wearing a gasmask reduces how quickly this happens. So that must mean that SOMETHING bad is affecting your character trough the air (because lets face it, this game is insanely detailed/'lifelike' in a way & you cant die from rotting corpse smell, so you must be attracting some sort of airborne disease from them) - 29:55 There's an easter egg somewhere (that im not gonna spoil) in relation to one of these theories mentioned on the radios, showing that that's most likely the cause for the infection. - 30:15 There's multiple military bases all over the map, what you call a military base is generally considered a 'secret' Military R&D facility, its just poorly labeled on the map. This comes straight from the devs mouth during a public playtest of either B40 or B41 (dont remember exactly it was literally a few years back) where we were tasked to survive and escape that place when packed to the brim with zombies. Actual military bases are the ones with tents and the watchtowers and all the civilian stuff outside the gates. Computers & cctv stations (not 'super computers') exist in many other area's too, that place was just the first one to get desktop-style computers, quickly after they added them all over the map. Food for thought: This R&D place is clearly meant to have a basement (there's an elevator but that part of the building only has 1 floor) so more will be featured there at some point?? LEVEL 8 - 31:15 There's rumors there is an even worse one that has a chance to make you suicide, idk if true but i keep hearing this on mp servers when people talk about VHS and dog goblin, could just be some 'old wives tale' but with how sadistic the devs can be i do see a chance for it to be real hehe. - 33:08 Apparently there's like a 0.5% chance that you can survive a bite if you have 'Fast Healer' trait and good medical supplies, its not really acknowledged on the wiki page of 'Knox Infection' but vaguely hinted at on the Traits page, i've actually survived 2 bites in literal years of playing, both of the times i did have Fast Healer but it could've also just been a bug/fluke that no longer applies today, i kind of feel like it is/was a bug related to getting the infection x amount of time after a getting bitten, but maybe that logic breaks if the bite has already healed by then? - 33:30 In my head patient zero was the one that bit my wife, the asshole. - 34:20 Zombies only respawn when you're far away, so you can clear out an area, but travel to far and they return, for that same reason you can not kill all the zombies, they will re-appear on one end of the map as you're clearing the other.

What the devs should add in the future is blizzards during winters as rare events. The automated broadcast systems will also tell you approximately when the power is going to go out. At the start of the broadcast it says "power fluctuations detected" you have 24-48 hours before it goes out, and if it says "power systems failing, network compromised" it's going out within 24 hours. It'll be right after the announcement of the broadcast title where it says it's a automated eas. The channels are 89.4, 91.2, 93.2, 95, 98, 101.2, 107.6 and whatever random one the game chooses to be eas. 91m2 is someone in the zone who broadcast and is active past day 9, 95 just prints the coordinates to fort Knox occasionally, and 107.6 will be someone in the zone warning the public about the Knox event/snipers/the zombies before it's public knowledge

One thing, you mention infections from non zombie attacks and knox infection from zombie attacks - you can still get an infected wound from a zombie attack, separate from the Knox Infection. Infections are just a chance if a wound isn't treated well enough.

They are labeled as "CCTV monitors" (or something very close to that) when you try pick them up, they are not super computers and not in any way rare, they exist everywhere (even before that place was added) & do nothing. The desktop pc's were only available in that military R&D site for a very short period before they got added all over the map. They also do nothing.

I swear... I actually once survived a bite on build 39 when cars where introduced. Here's the story, I was fairly new to PZ and dint know much but I did learn that a bite is the end, but there was one moment that after I was bitten I wanted to go out my way, hopped on a car and crash it... but before that, my anxiety went down as so my sickness, but in the end still killed myself. It was on builder difficulty and it was a while ago, but that was when I remembered I survived a bite just dint know it'd significance was.

I've survived two in the several years that i've been playing, it definably was possible, its anyone's guess if it was a bug or feature tho, as much as i want it to be a hidden feature it was probably some bug related to how you get infected X amount of time after you get bitten, but maybe not if the bite already healed? it was said that 'Fast Healer' trait was what could get you to survive this and in both my cases i did have that trait. Elsewhere in these comments is also mention of 'Thick Skinned' having a similar effect/bug at one point.

They've gone on record to say that NPCs will be the last thing they implement which makes a lot of sense since they want NPCs to do everything players can. So the general idea is they add in every feature and then finally they can program NPCs fully capable of exploring and interacting with the world. It would slow down things immensely if they needed to update NPCs every patch, hell they probably would still be working on implementing cars. I remember when the game DID have npcs and the only thing you did with them was hunt them for shotgun shells.
