Thank you for this!!! I have been so annoyed with myself because even if I study for a long period of time (8-12 hrs) EVERYDAY, sacrificing my social life, punishing myself and all, I still get a lower grade and all of the things that I am studying don't usually retain longer, I easily forget them. I just realized that I have been studying wrong and being hard on myself. Thanks again for the tips. NOTED! 😊🙏♥️

It doesn't work in Iran. In Iran you gotta study and race with 1.2 million students for medical schools or engineering schools and only 12 thousands of students are getting into the schools per year.I remember when I used to study 15 hours a day for 9 months and now I'm in medical school and I only study 8 to 10 hours a day

1. Spread out your study and make your studying time consistent 2. No pseudo-studying: weigh the effectiveness and efficiency of your studying 3. Engage in active engagement. Writing a quiz for yourself, teach what you’re studying, create concept maps or diagrams, or active recalling are great examples of interactive learning. 4. Eliminate multitasking and restrict distractions 5. Revise for an acceptable time, e.g. devoting 30 minutes to study each subject

The brain is a muscle it may be powerful, but it is small in volume compared to say your hamstrings or your back muscles it needs time to recover just like any other muscle so what I typically try to go for, is to study at least one aspect of any given subject and try to at least learn something new and then stop rest, and at least an hour after try to briefly review what you’ve learned to make sure you retained it in the next time you study review it again briefly to make sure you remember it but test yourself on it and then once satisfied move onto the next thing you need to learn and repeat the process because anything worth doing takes time and patience

My main method was learning it, forgetting it and then learning it again. The only thing is that I take longer to learn that way. But the best part is that even after a year I’ll still remember. I discovered this method while studying my Japanese, and I started using that in high school. Of course I have other methods to go with that too

@luffydeeznuts4846 2 жыл бұрын
@@vjhnika I’ll try my best to elaborate. So basically I learn, forget, try to remember and then learn again. For example let’s say I’m trying to learn another word for ‘Develop’. I teach myself that another word for develop can be ‘Evolve’ I keep repeating that, studying over and over and then stop once I feel like I get it. Next is to forget what you learn, and to do that all you have to do is stop studying that completely. Go days and even weeks without it if you want Now while you forget it, keep wondering about it. It’s unclear in your head because you forgot, but keep wondering, keep trying to remember what you learn Then just BAM spoil yourself out of nowhere with the answer. You’d think “Ohhhh *that’s* what it was!” And more likely, you won’t forget it It’s weird, but this was even encouraged by my Math teacher, the 2nd best Math teacher in my country, and it works well with me. Instead of trying to remember it 24/7 just forget it at one point

oml, theres a theory on that. Its called literally the "Forget to Learn" theory. It talks about how the problem lies not with the storage of our memory but the retrieval. The harder it is to recall something, the more effective it is to learn when you finally recall it again. And like you said, this is for long-term memory.

When approaching new material my brain separates the information as 1 before the exposure of the information, then lecture, then after lecture, assignments then get ready to quiz or test. What I'm confused is what process to take in each phase? Specially with classes like physics that you need to know the concepts + implementation. If I start the assignments before the my concepts are not solid but if I start at the concepts I might submit my assignment late. What other methods work for you in classes like pgysics?

The only thing I would change about this video is that every time you mention study hours per day you mention numbers like 8, 10 or 12 hours of studying a day. Maybe if that is the day before the test I can understand, but you don't need to do concentrated studying for 8 hours a day every single day in order to do well. Don't get me wrong , if you do study that much then you pretty much are guaranteed to do well,but it isn't a requirement to do so much in order to still get a distinction. Even 3/4 hours of concentrated work every single day will get you a distinction(if it is concentrated and timed so you know it is accurate) Consistency is king though.

I can't agree more with identifying how to be more active versus passive when studying. That's where the misconception about highlighting and simply re-reading come in when it comes to passive learning. Definitely love that you pointed out about forming meaning with the material, quizzing yourself and creating mind maps. As a visual learner, those tips are extremely helpful for my studying process too. Valuable content as always Elon :)

i am a visual learner too. i love active studying. but it was during the pandemic when my study habits were all halted. now im having a hard time to bring the enthusiasm and focus back (i needed it this time more than ever because im going to be a college student already). hearing "active studying" again makes me want to recalibrate my mind and be eager with my studies.

@User Acc hey, trust me I know how much frustrating maths is! I suggest (1) first read the texbook or watch a video about the concept of the chapter before class itself. So by when the class will actually come, you’d have already known the basics… the class will act as your revision class + if you have any doubts or smth you didn’t understand, you could clear it then. (2) I find this method very effective! After you have finished studying a topic, do topic questions. Search up: (chapter name) topic questions. That way you are actually covering any and every type of question that could come from that specific topic. Doing this for all, you basically have done many past papers!! Hope this helped :)

Study Smart, Not Hard 1) Spread out your Studying • Set a No. of Study hrs which you can do for everyday. Remember maintain that hrs throughout the semester • Helps to reduce stress during exam time. [5-6 hrs a day for me] 2) Eliminate Pseudo-Studing •Ask yourself - " Will This Task Affect My Overall Grades" -Then allocate ur time accordingly 3) Active Engagement • Create a Q&A • Become a Teacher • Create Concept Maps & Diagram • Active Recall - 1) Read a Page/topic 2) Write down what u learn from that 3) Then Check what info you miss 4) Avoid Multi-tasking •Use "Focus to do" app 5) The Distributed Practice Technique "Act of revision should be spaced in Gradually Increasing Intervals, Roughly Intervals of 1,2,4,8......so on"

The thing that’s hard is how year 13 is different to the rest of the years. With the first 12 years of school, you start the year and increase the hours spent as the exams get closer. With year 12 which is the first year of a level, they throw you into predicted exams, then if you unfortunately don’t do as well in those, you have prediction improvements which are after school. In addition the predicted grade also uses class work. So with year 13, you essentially need to study as much as you would before exams in other years, but from the very start of the year. In addition you also have uni applications and pre uni exams. It’s tough but I’m getting through it ok. But It’s why I’m here lmao.
