@@ProjectFarm I'm very thankful to my parents for being able to afford having me learn three languages still as a kid, even though i live in a 3rd world country. If it wasn't for me having english as a near-natural language, i'd never even dream of coming across content like this in my country's main language. To give you an idea of how screwed up things are here, major companies (even international ones, like DeWalt and Makita, which we have here) make shady deals to manufacture products of generally poor quality and to not allow any newcomers into the competition, forcing the population into buying substandard products for sheer lack of better alternatives. Importing anything is a major hassle and because of all the taxation, it ends up being prohibitive if one plans to use imported products often. Sometimes i get a bit desperate to leave but i get reminded of our worthless currency and just how little we actually make... There's no escape but dream of a better life through the internet and youtube. Thank you, Project Farm!

@Swampy exporting also has taxes and our shipping infrastructure is quite arcaic and inneficient. If one wants to "expedite" something out, we usually go to UPS or other international company, even though cost is a major concern. As an example, i recently bought some supplements from an american heatlh supplement retailer. They had three shipping methods: the slowest one that doesn't include any pre-paid taxes cost me 20 dollars. The middle one said that i was supposed to get my products within three weeks, already counting the time the parcel would spend in customs. That'd set me back 73 dollars. Yeah, major difference. And the most expensive promised to fly through customs and arrive at my doorstep within a week, since it included all taxes pre-paid. My order was worth 112US$. This shipping mode? Alone, 130$. So yeah, i guess i'm not going to choose that one

@jaakkopontinen5 жыл бұрын
Yes! Piercing, friction, cutting etc. I worked a few years in yard construction. Concrete products just killed gloves. Like by the dozen. All those little sharp shards of crushed rock in the material plus the ammonia etc from the thousands of bricks... The only number I looked at when making glove decisions was, in the end, the cut resistance. I think it was because the worst the concrete could do wasn't actually the sandpaper-like scrubbing but instead the particles that were a tad bigger that cut the glove material. And yeah, technically all sandpapers "cut" grooves the size of it's grain - it's the many juxtapositioned cuts that loosens material. But the cutting I'm talking about are from specs like 0.5mm in size or so. Huge in terms of sandpaper and the average surface smoothness of landscaping concrete products.

I really like that you use different weights and times. I have found from using these products at work for 30 years that any grinding, cutting, and sanding disc it is best to let the disc do the work and not force it. They last longer even though they may cut a bit slower. You may be cutting slower, but by the time you stop to change wheels the total time ends up quicker. Also you put less stress on the tool which lasts longer too.

Interesting test to see how flap discs hold up relative to each other on rust/scale.... In general if you want to extend the life of any flap disc or sanding disc always remove the rust & scale surface first with either a grinding wheel, sandblasting, rust dissolver/ acid or (my preferred method) a diamond grinding wheel. Iron oxide is quite high on the Mohs hardness scale, & is an abrasive in its own right, Emery powder. You can see how glazed the edges of each flap are after the second test, & why they don't cut nearly as well in the 2 min test. Once you get to clean steel a fresh flap disc or sanding disc will cut beautifully.

Another outstanding comparison. The last two flap discs I bought were Dewalt and they were just as you say, overpriced and so-so performance. I’m not a big dewalt fan due to a bad experience with an expensive hammer drill that was hardly used and just outside the warranty it decided to let out the blue smoke. After being denied warranty I took it apart and it was a clear manufacturer defect. Improper assembly caused wires to get pinched and the insulation was damaged just enough to short circuit. When shown photos, dewalt basically gave me the middle finger. I now buy Makita drills and hypoid saws, Milwaukee grinders, Bosch routers, Sanders, and table saws. I’m going to buy a flap disc tomorrow and will be going with diablo.

@@ProjectFarm Hey, ya know it usually gets trimmed down naturally anyway. Unless all you're doing is flat work, and then you can just turn them on their side now and then while you're working. By the time the disk gets a little smaller and so worn it's really not worth all the effort to bother too much... in my opinion.

could you test winter diesel fuel vs summer diesel fuel and see if there is a difference?
@RenaxTM915 жыл бұрын
Depends where you live, every other station has its own blend and especially in winter, real cold places has more "anti-gel additives" (paraffin etc) than warmer places, but generally most places where you can get to a cold place on one tank of diesel or it might be cold during the next month has some... More cold equals less diesel and more additives. generally theese additives results in less chance of freezing/gelling, but also a loss of power and worse fuel economy. Testing different fuels from your area might help you out slightly, but odds are that all the stations in your area has roughly the same blend as the climate is roughly the same. Also testing it versus the summer fuel at the same station has its own problems, storing diesel fuel over time without it degrading is not easy, it won't degrade much over half a year in a plastic jug but enaugh to affect the testresults.
