I would like to see you do this test again, but instead of dispensing the dirt directly down the carb with a spoon, throw it into a shop fan that's in front of the engine so the engine sucks in a more real-world dirty air. I'm curious if the dirt covering the cooling fins will change the engine's mode of failure, or if itt'l last a little longer that way. Obviously itt'l still die, that's a given. I'd also like to see you get a tach hooked up to one of these engines, bypass the governor, and show us just how fast these things can turn until they go Kerbal on us. I'm betting somewhere around 5500-6000RPM is when the rod lets go.

TestECull iget your post... 8000 is possible with mods... i think the channel mr midshipman modified a predator engine this way (predator= honda clone) its done for racing though....
@802Garage7 жыл бұрын
I agree with this. I'd like to see the test repeated, but as a bunch of dirt and sand dispersed in a "cloud" such as by a fan, which would better simulate how it would typically happen in the real world. Probably won't straight out kill the engine, but even a loss of 5-10 PSI would be a fascinating test result and very informative for those who run engines of any kind without a filter.

I wanted to give you moar thumbs up for a Kerbal reference, but have moar boosters instead... Or struts... Your choice! :P Good idea. Not sure I feel this was accurately tested. I understand it is somewhat scaled down. But comparing such a small cylinder with a teaspoon of dirt seems like throwing a cup of dirt into a cars intake. That and it's literally pouring in, not really broken up into the air or tossed around an air box. Maybe put same mix into paint sprayer, make a faux airbox. And re-test. The amount of wear you put on the engine was just out scale in my opinion. If a full size engine was exposed to the amount dumped into the mower it would take quite a while to amount to that, there would likely have been an oil change or additives added at some point depending on the owner. My two cents, have a good one

@StolenJoker847 жыл бұрын
Scott Donaldson i was thinking the same thing. It's a great video, BTW, but not very realistic in terms of scale. Much more sand than a car engine would take in at a time, and much too small of a cylinder to scale to a car engine … wonder what would happen if you took the same test to say, a motorcycle engine or something.
@choking0smurf7 жыл бұрын
Scott Donaldson you obviously dont live down a 15 mile dirt road like me. Air filter is dirty as hell every 1000 miles. To me. This is a very accurate test.

Real world destructive testing. Sadly putting sand into an engine is what the EPA expects junk yards to do to prevent re-use of perfectly good engines. Remember Cash for Clunkers? That's exactly what was done as well as running engines without oil. Great video!

I recently changed the air filter on my 2020 Toyota Camry LE , four cyclinder 2.5 liter engine . I had a Purolatoir filter and had sprayed it with PuraClean Filter Spray , allowed to dry and installed . It is used for furnance filters to attract / catch more dirt . I had contacted the company and asked about using it on a vehicle's air filter , they said sure . The filter had been in for 3 months and I compared it to a new one . Definitely a big difference and changed this time to a WIX , made in South Korea . Very noticeable improvement in acceleration and smoothness . I had usually left air filters in for 6 months , but as you said they are to collect / stop dirt from getting into the engine . So now to replace filter 4 times a year at a cost of $120.00 .
