The oil competition series intensifies as Amazon Basics competes against Liqui Moly. Is the low-priced AmazonBasics full synthetic 5W-30 motor as good or better than Liqui Moly's Top Tex 4200 5W-30 full synthetic motor oil? I am not sponsored by Liqui Moly or Amazon Basics. I purchased both of these products using my own money. I am not sponsored by Amazon, Liqui Moly, or by any product manufacturer. 100% of Project Farm videos are ideas that come from those leaving comments. So, thank you very much for requesting this video!

I have loved watching all your tests. Seems like a strange thing to say now that I have typed it haha. I recently had a new engine built for my race car with forged internals. The machine shop who built my engine requires me to use Motul engine oil. I have always used amsoil. I was really hoping you could do a test with all the oils generally used for racing. Amsoil Signature, Liqui Molly, Motul, Royal Purple and then maybe verus Amazon basics full synthetic.

@niccadoodles
@niccadoodles 5 жыл бұрын
That won't necessarily be true. Different oils have different breakdown and break in points. There is wide range of disparity between new viscosity and after 800 miles of use. Shoutout to blackstone labs. There used to be a great forum that posted great analysis, unfortunately they were bought out by an oil company (go figure) Essentially he could run both oils in the same engine for several durations of 1-2 hours, then test the difference.

I really enjoy watching your videos. But the testing methods in this one left me with some questions. How can you compare Oils without testing their lubrication at an actual engine temperatures? Maintaining lubrication at hight temp for an extended period of time is the MOST critical property of any engine oil. It's what makes an engine oil an engine oil. Cold start viscosity is all fine and dandy, but according to the tests in your video, you might as well use sunflower seed oil.
@bluetsunami4005

@@finharms9439 What rock have you been living under? Times have changed. Pennzoil Platinum 5W-30 is truly top 5 or top 10 oil of the world. Shell is the parent company - same as Quaker State. Both are superior to Mobil 1 in terms of real world burn off in the summer and have less change in viscosity. Plus both provide more power and less noise at first fill and after 3500 miles. Used all in my 1991 160,000mi CRX, 2003 187,000mi Xterra, and 2003 91,000mi G35 (Mobil 1 junk never touched that car). As a chemist for a major oil refiner, you realize your tests have no validity with regards to oil quality. Oil chemistry is designed for conditions such as extreme pressure, shear strength and adhesion. Oil which flows faster down a channel is in fact not what you want to happen. Viewers should not be mislead by unorthodox testing methods.

So the amount of time is takes oil to reach all areas inside the engine that need lubrication is not valid? If that is so, all engines would run of the same viscosity oil? You want those cold dry start ups to be as damaging as possible because oil flow is not important.
@maleman5610
@maleman5610 5 жыл бұрын
@@4wdoverlandafrica221 Flow is important but by no means used to determine quality of a product designed for lubrication and cooling. Adhesion is a critical factor to ensure all internal engine parts retain a very thin surface layer of oil when not in motion. Without this to provide lubrication upon cold start, serious damage would occur very quickly to an engine.

SiGHT SMaSH - either that’s a joke or it’s really because amazon sponsored their oil needs. Doesn’t mean it’s any better then any other brand with the same freakin API certification. Lol. Never look at the sponsored logos as an indicator that they are using THE BEST. They are using what’s cheapest / FREE. Those engines get rebuilt after every race anyway, so who gives a hoot what oil they use for ONE RACE duration. Lol

@@I_know_what_im_talking_about Well, the other thing is that it's just an entirely different application. Under high performance racing conditions, you need something that's going to hold up to the heat, and not shear, froth, or separate. So in those cases, you want to have a fairly basic additive package, and not have to worry about VII breakdown. So even if it WAS what F1 used, that doesn't necessarily make it the best for YOU to use.

Sonuvishwanath 9945312235 It’s certainly not. Regular oil changes will ensure your engine stays clean. I rebuild motors and see it all the time. Just recently rebuilt my 600 hp Toyota motor after 5,000 miles and it looked as clean as the day I first built it, and that’s with low detergent oil

What is the term for when manufacturing becomes so good and perfected that the process itself pushes the quality up, and lowering quality would actually be more costly as it would required an additional step in the process

I am one of your newest fans. I just found out about your channel about 4-5 days ago. I have a hour round trip to work and back and i play your videos the whole time. What you do is awesome and i am so glad i found out about you....... i was wondering if you have ever done castrol videos. I doubt its better than any other oil but my dad had a 97 f-150 and it was a gasoline motor. All he used was castrol 10w-30. He put 400,000 miles on it and all he replaced was the alternator and the radiator. He ended up giving it away. But after seeing the 400,000 miles he put on it now all i use is castrol. I am sure luck had alot to do with getting that many miles but it made me a big believer.
