Marine (Boat Motor) Oil vs Car Engine Oil compared for anti-foaming, anti-wear, cold temperature performance and corrosion resistance. Manufacturers of marine oil claim that marine engine oil is superior than automotive oil for marine applications. I purchase all of the products tested to ensure unbiased test results. @SuperWaterskiboy
@SuperWaterskiboy 2 жыл бұрын
no. the big tests that are important here for marine oil specifically was the anti corrosion/rust and the anti wear at rpm. Think about this, boats deal with much more moisture than any car will just due to operational environment. The corrosion resistance is important. Additionally, boats don't have multiple transmission gears to reduce engine rpm in use.. and so over their useful life see a lot more high rpm. while at a constant speed the marine oil 'only' performed 3% better, the ** about that is when you look at the regular use cases, the marine oil with less wear will make a much larger difference in the long run.

Right on par Todd. You bring that extra bit of humanity back into my life with your videos. I thank you for your kind and attention to detail, your objectives and the effort you put in without support other than that of Patreons. You are indeed what we need right now. Regarding all your oil testing, of which ones would relate to diesel engines? This is a test if not already done I would be very interested in. My 30 years in the Australian Army, they only used one type of oil, something labelled OMD110. The omd being for oil mineral detergent, now I have my own diesel vehicle for towing purposes I only like to use the best wherever possible. We do have an Australian brand, Penrite, who make some interesting types that may also peak your interest 😉 worth a look on the ol interweb Lol. Again, thank you so much for making so much difference to my life, I feel that in some ways your videos also help me with my ptsd. If I feel that I am in a slump, I do many things to try and lift my day, but your non political and no agenda type of format other than research and results always lift me a level or three. 😇😇😇

@DEADB33F

Great test. Marine engines tend to run cooler even at high load as the engine is constantly exchanging heat with the relatively cool river/sea water which will be more effective at removing heat than recirculating the same hot coolant in a loop through an air-cooled radiator. ...that might explain the lower flashpoint of the marine oil.
@rh1860
@rh1860 2 жыл бұрын
Was just about to say this. An unlimited supply of 40-80 degree water will keep an engine very cool even under full load conditions. It’s also why marinized car/truck engines often make more power in boats than in a car/truck. No heat issues.
@frar.841
@frar.841 2 жыл бұрын
For that reason people shouldn’t pay all that extra money for marine oil, regular oil will do the exact same job if not better, and that’s what I use in my mercruiser every season for the last 7 years without a problem, an engine is an engine no matter where you use it IMO

@rogerheuckeroth7456
@rogerheuckeroth7456 2 жыл бұрын
Not so sure it runs cooler, it still has a thermostat that controls the temperature. As long as the thermostat and water pump are working, there should never be overheating though. The closed loop of a automotive engine makes for more possibility of overheating though.

Test Idea I'm a woodworker and I believe that you probably have many woodworkers subscribing to your channel. Blades for planers and jointers are expensive to replace and they don't last very long. There are several different options all the way up to a helical insert type. Many people have the dewalt dw735 planer. It's considered a bit of an industry standard. Power consumption is also a big concern for using a planer and blades contribute quite a bit to load. One last item would be to see if there is a way to sharpen these blades with a commercially available tool. Lots of guys make home made fixtures and use sandpaper. I haven't seen anything commercial to do that task. Great channel. Probably my favorite channel of all. Extremely informative and very well done.
