After having a dedicated Home Theater room with a projector for 15 years now, I'd say Silver Ticket is the best mix of low price and good quality out there right now! I paid $1,100 for a 82" DaLite screen in 2016 and it got water damaged, so I replaced it with a Silver Ticket 92" screen for $184 and it actually gives me a better image for a fraction of the price!

My advise is to get the projector first and then use it to help decide the screen size. I'd recommend shooting on an empty wall with a 16x9 source and zoom the image until it gives you the size you are happy with... Then just get the 2.35:1 screen that has the same height as that image so that when you watch 16x9 content you won't be losing any size.

I have had a motorised 136" screen for over 10 years now and even though it goes up-n-down often (not every day) it does not have one single warp in either the edges or across the surface. I can't remember the brand but it is 1.2 gain, Australian made and was purchased through a screen specialty shop in Melbourne (they sell to corporates for conference rooms, etc). Needless to say, I am happy. If it wasn't for the bay window behind it, which is a design/sound proofing headache, I would make a 140"+ acoustically transparent screen, but that would also hide my amazing Osborne Epitome speakers.

Great video Chris. Graphics were a plus. I built my home theater in 2006 and love it. Good information here. I set my sweet spot for sound and video in the middle of 2nd row of seats. My screen was a 2.1 gain and it has worked great. Home projectors have gotten better with their lumens since my initial Panasonic purchase. Screen does get dark when you are off center, but does not affect me 😉

I like how this video says seating distance (1.5x) is based on a screen's width , whereas most other videos use height (3x) which doesn't make sense because movie theaters optimal seating position is in 30 degrees from the left to the right side of the screen.. @13:27 minutes

I have a question please? Is the higher the Lumen better than the lower? As there are many Projectors that have over 7200 Lumens for only a few hundred pounds. Example: WIFI Bluetooth Projector with Android 6.0 OS Native 1080P HD Video Projector 4K Supported 7200 Lumen LCD Wireless Projector for Outdoor Movie Home Theater Small Meeting Presentation. I would be grateful for any advise. Many thanks for your great video.

Yes, the higher the lumance the better. If you have a light controlled room, you don't need to go above 1000 to 2000. I'm unaware of any 7200 projectros at that price point, sorry.

got a uhd51 this year, new to projections, i zoom in on wide movies now because the grey bars are anoying when in dark parts of move and yes it chops left and right a little but its so little im fine with it. saying that i am saving for a dual screen or boarder solution. its hard to find motorised 150 inch cinema wide screens for resonablke price. my electri duronic screen was 80 pounds and its fine so not gona spend loads.

I recently purchased an Optoma UHD50X 4K projector to accommodate my PlayStation 5 for 4K gaming. I’ve spent countless hours searching online for a projector screen that will be large enough to cover the entire living room wall if possible, and I need any expert opinions on which side screen I could purchase. My dimensions are L: 174 x W: 94, Diagonal: 194. I’ve owned an Epson 8350 for 10 years, but never made a major screen purchase. Not so much concerned with the brand as I am with covering as much of the wall as possible to get the most out of my purchases. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Use this projector calculator, it will answer your size question very well. www.projectorcentral.com/projection-calculator-pro.cfm - as for screen type, anything in budget from Amazon or Ebay will suffice; even from dedicated HT stores can have some great prices.

If I was buying a benq 3550 for 3D and would have my windows blacked out would a white painted wall be good enough to get a good picture out of it? I'm going to project a 90 inch image and my other walls will likely be a grey or blue color to reflect less light and my floor is grey wood paneling. I'm mainly worried about whether the image will be bright enough. After seeing your video I'm trying to debate between a 1.3 gain screen or a white wall

Hey Chris, I'm also from melbourne and just wondering what are the dimensions of your home theatre? I'm trying to fit one into a reasonably small space of about 5m x 5m. have you had any experience with ultra short throw projectors? I'm seeing heaps of reviews and they look good but not sure whether to just go for an old fashioned ceiling mount projector.
@chrisvanderstock
@chrisvanderstock 5 жыл бұрын
5 x 5 metres is a good size. You can fit two rows of seats in that sort of space, and still use a ceiling mounted projector. I think for the money, you can get a much better "traditional" projector compared to an ultrashort throw version.

If you have an acoustically transparent screen why not? Especially if you have a very large screen. I would say probably not for 100" but 140" or bigger you almost have to.

No offense but right from the start your video is all over the place. Stuart is actually spelled Stewart. Credibility goes down with spelling the number one name in screens incorrectly. Then you go off on a tangent about speaker placement. You are talking about Atmos speakers in a screen video? You should script out your videos before you begin shooting. This whole video is like one big run on stream of consciousness sentence. This was super painful to watch. Your attention span is very short. So you shouldn't try to shoot long videos. This should have been five 4 minute videos. Would have helped you stay focused and keep the attention of the viewers.
