Honestly if I was doing the tank I'd drop in that amazing single stone and be DONE! Thats one gorgeous stone but I'm sure a full scape will be a really nice.

Got to be said, you put together some lovely looking tanks Bentley. That experiment sounds fun. I always have some form of UGF running in at least one tank, not anoxic though. I've been playing with fluval Stratum as a subtrate with alfagrog under the UGF plate. Working out to be my most stable setup at the moment.

Looking forward to your findings on the anoxic experiment. I did the same thing with the slow moving plenum in my 5 gallon Pea Puffer tank. Would be interesting to see how yours turns out. Hope you get those Leopoldi's breeding!

Would be awesome if your anoxic filtration experiment yields worthwhile results ! I'm sure I speak for fish keepers worldwide when I say how nice it would be to be able to reduce the laborious nitrate reducing water changes we all have to do to keep our fish healthy !

Bentley Pascoe if you haven't already found him look up Jay's aquarium he definitely shared some great information and presentaion on this filtration style. Definitely far better information than the well known Novak channel.

Good morning Bentley and fellow fish nerds! Excited to see what you have planned. That rimless tank behind you is...wowza!! Edit; what do you think about Seachem purigen? The fancy rimless tank made me wonder if you have any thoughts on it since a lot of the fancy tech tank people swear by it to keep the water super clear. Edit #2; I have to agree with your wife. Java Fern is awesome. But it's like Pokemon, once you have one, you have to collect then all! I started with a weird short leaf 'Windelov' and now have regular leaf, narrow leaf, 'Trident' and the word short leaf 'Windelov' and the regular. 😂✌️

Having used Safe-T-Sorb a few times with some success, I’m curious to see how you recommend charging it. I really like the look and cost of the material but am hoping your info can better my success rate. Thanks.

Typically you really only need to charge with calcium and magnesium, these are the most important for GH buffering and healthy root systems

Hey Bentley, nice to see your latest projects! Question, what Fluval 3.0 Pro settings do you use to get the best coloration out of your rainbows?

Each tank is a little different and in general species will matter. Short answer: push all the whites to 100 and keep the pink and blue lower.

I’m rocking some pygmies right now, so I’m looking to accentuate neon blues, reds, whites and a hint of yellow. I try to keep the warm light down because it makes the tank look yellow

40g breeder. Same size as the tank James will be scaping. So rather than 1 40g, the angels will be split across 2 40g.

@BentleyPascoe those are leopoldis you mentioned? I've been researching them, the so called "dwarf " angelfish. Some literature says they are morso aggressive than your run of the mill angels, whats been your experience?

That's a good question. From what I've seen, it shouldn't take that long, but we'll see how things shake out over a few months

I’ve been very curious to see if this style tank actually works…in asking around, I’ve had several trusted sources, including people you respect, say they have had deep substrate tanks continually bottom out their nitrates. Until I do it myself I can’t fully vouch for it. I will say, I think you’re going to have to give it more time than you probably want to, just don’t draw a definitive conclusion if you only give it 3 months. People I know who’ve done it have done it without any flow, one with and one without plenums.

@@neutronshiva2498 there is a temptation not to seed it, but if I do, a standard off the shelf is the goal to minimize the introduction of additional waste so I can be more measure in the ammonium dosing
