A staple in the 1950's. Yes , Prokofiev and Stravinsky were played everywhere. A very elegant and hopeful period for music. This version is particularly satisfying. Marriner, may he rest in peace. was one of the greats!

i care much more about the musical depth in prokofiev's compositions than the rather show off rendition of the LSO .. which kind of takes away from the ability to usefully study these chord structures melodic transitions and rhythmic.. modalities but alas i guess we have to put up with it .. untill someone creates a midi file..

What does he mean by "Love of the three oranges"? I don´t get the idea. In what way has oranges to do with this music or this score? What was it that inspired Prokofiev? Anybody who knows?
@infinitelytheheartexpands3 жыл бұрын
this is a suite of music arranged from Prokofiev’s 1921 opera ‘L’amour des trois oranges’ (The Love of Three Oranges’). the plot is much too complicated to describe in its entirety, but basically it is about a prince who is a hypochondriac. the witch Fata Morgana is trying to use his hypochondria and depression to overthrow the royal family. she attempts to crash a banquet being held in order to make the prince laugh, but she falls over, which causes the prince to start laughing at her. incensed, she curses him to fall in love with three oranges and to search the globe for them. he eventually finds them with some help and it turns out that the three oranges are actually princesses that have been transformed by Fata Morgana. two of them die due to extreme thirst but the third is saved just in time to fall in mutual love with the prince. there’s a whole lot of other shenanigans and memorable characters (the prince and princess fall in love and there’s still a whole act to go after that), as well as a healthy dose of metatheatricality. it’s zany and fun and definitely worth a watch.

@@infinitelytheheartexpands Thank you for the cogent explanation! I love this suite, almost as much as I love all Russian romantic/classical music. Russian struggles in music often make me feel as if I am drowning in a large body of water. At least with Beethoven's struggles, I feel like I am on land.

This LP sounds really awful. Muffled sound and a high background noise. Small frequency range and bad dynamics. High distorsion.
