C'est avec justesse que Prokofiev avait choisi le ballet. Originaire d'Italie et datant du 15ème siècle, ce genre dramatique existait déjà à l'époque où William Shakespeare écrivait son chef-d'oeuvre Roméo et Juliette. La chorégraphie est parfaite et elle se déroule dans des décors somptueux rappelant la splendeur de Venise. Cette Danse des Chevaliers rend l'atmosphère lourde et angoissante qui règnait lors des rencontres entre les Montaigu et les Capulet. Elle incarne aussi la menace de la mort de Juliette et de Roméo.

Love watching a TALL male lead ....lots of "eye" appeal to overall production...... makes a difference sometimes.....and this fabulous musical score is enticing, emotionally gripping, and enchanting......Romeo.amd Juliet. Takes the CAKE .in ballet productions. In my book... Nureyev still ranks #1 as Romeo......but this guy's height is very attractive

The LP of this ballet was given to me by a guy I worked with and I have loved it for years especially the waltz which is one of the loveliest pieces of music ever written. It is so totally uplifting - it's magical.

I am pretty sure it is Nureyev's direction when he was the art director at Paris Opera Ballet. I think the first dancer who introduces Juliet is he himself (the style and the hand gestures look like his). This scene I believe is called the "Dance of the Knights".

Beautiful but a little plodding. The dancers are exquisite, and the production is sensual with it's bloody rust reds, but there's a clumpy look to the movements, as if the dancers are performing a parody of the music. It almost looks like any second they'll break out in a hip hop or even a Charleston.
