The closed eye was so disturbing that I spent couple minutes observing how closing an eye affects it’s position relatively to the other one so now I know that both parts close almost equally and the line should be where the bottom of the other eye is. It’s funny how I learned it 😂
@jrm68723 жыл бұрын
I learned a few things from this. 1. don't think about what you're doing 2. don't organize your layers 3. ??? 4. profit

This is great, I completely get the whole messy start up and finding interesting shapes in the looseness of the initial sketch, that process for me is one of the most exciting parts of drawing a piece of artwork.

It's so refreshing to hear another artist encourage to keep lines loose and to even keep the under drawing. Also learned more about painting ugly. Too many channels emphasizing on "confident" lines. I personally have always liked the look of the loose sketch, and whenever I erased The loose lines in traditional sketching I feel like I've lost something

Stan, I love this art content that you've been putting out. Drawing characters is such a widespread desire for a lot of artists. So interesting to see someone so renown being so honest about having "mistakes keeping us company throughout the process". I personally get so lost sometimes into correcting those mistakes and I eventually get stuck with a over-synthetic feeling to the painting. Very interesting breakdown of the process, the comments are really encouraging!

i learned a lot from this wow! i know there's a huge chunk of information missing when i watch pro artists do their work, and now that huge gap has been filled thanks to this step-by-step process. this looks a bit messy but it is actuallt very systematic lol idk how to explain. everything just comes off in the right way at the end. thank you so much dave!

It's really cool to see a professional artist who has just as messy process of drawing as I do :D and I don't think it's very common. But yeah, going with the artistic flow is what makes drawing so fun to me!

The random lines serve (at least) three purposes: 1) your hand is moving and your brain is engaged, the creative engine is started, 2) building up structure, there's something there now, and 3) playing with pareidolia based on those suggestions.

Oh man! Those professional artists with their crisp clean work -- I'll never be that accurate and tidy. Professional artist: Emits a spaghetti stream of lines that looks like the noodle puke in the gutter outside a Chinese takeaway. As I go along, it seems more and more apparent that it isn't a question of messy or accurate. Both are two different ways of looking at form. If you only have one or the other it's like only having one eye: you lose depth perception. The more I improve, the less I understand *how* I'm improving.

Thanks for the awesome video Stan. I highly recommend Dave Greco's KZbin and Twitch channels. It's very interesting to watch him work on his concept art live. Maybe that's where I keep messing up. I'm a Virgo and very 'orderly' like I feel like I should get it 'right' on the first sketch and I feel like I have to do it in A. B. C order when maybe I should approach it. I haven't been able to do a 'full' piece lately just sketching and I'm getting frustrated. I was a WoW fanartist and now trying to draw FFXIV and it's vibe is COMPLETELY different. Thanks for sharing!

This is one of those rare cases for me, that the method of just being organic and seeing where it goes is closer to how I used to draw when I was younger. Though I also was able to re-create something fairly well when I was young by looking at an image. So... I just need to re-capture both sides for when I use images as reference materials
