Hiroshi Yoshida 1876 - 1950 was known as a woodblock print maker. His design, drawing skills, color strategies, harmonies produced some of the most beautiful images in the history of art making. He didn't have a soft edge in sight. I have heard it said the last thing an artists needs to concern themselves with is edges....and I believe it.

wow i never thought that traditional artists could do the "flip the canvas" with a mirror, good to know
@arufu63399 күн бұрын
I don't know about canvas but I turn my sketch pad upsidedown as another alternative
@Darkness_Damage9 күн бұрын
@@arufu6339 damn i feel like an idiot for not thinking about obvious options, thanks btw the "flip the canvas" method is only done digitally, or so i thought
@arufu63399 күн бұрын
@@Darkness_Damage yeah taking inspiration from digitally flipping the canvas, I used to take pictures then flipping it but it's taking more effort than I'm willing to do so I tried other alternative, and found putting it upsidedown, I later found out somewhere that artschools use that same technique to train artists' eyes to see portraits as shapes than a face as a whole, so it's cool I found it on my own :D

why the use of mirror? at 9:10?
@ProkoTV10 күн бұрын
Looking in the mirror gives you a few things. You gain some objectivity to spot your mistakes by seeing it from a new angle and you can check your proportions and make sure you're not unintentionally skewing something.

Any reason (at least to my untrained eye) that you use different skin tone? I mean at the end of the video, you are selling a portrait course. i think my customer would prefer that i get the skin tone right.
@ProkoTV4 күн бұрын
Morgan has an aesthetic preference that you can see across his work. At the end of the day, this doesn't feel wrong. It's idealizing with an aesthetic twist. You can make your color choices as you wish as well. The concepts of painting within the course aren't teaching the aesthetic. The concepts are yours to apply as you wish.

I am not a fan of the methods shown here. For starters, I don't like the use of such a small brush to noodle around here and there repeatedly and rather hesitatingly. I find the paint is too thick and pasty. And we end with a painting that I view as unsatisfying and weak "contentwise". Therefore, to me, this is an illustration, not a fine art painting.

Your use of values says things about people that are inaccurate.
