How do you the correct amount of preservative you should have in your product? Someone mentioned that it should be 1% of your product, but how do you calculate that?

Every preservative has a different ratio that it must be used at. You can find that ratio on the information of a preservative that you are interested in buying they always have it somewhere on the info. Now, you can calculate with paper and a pencil. Am gonna break it down for you hopefully it makes sense. So let's say your preservative should be used at 1% and your product is 50 ml, you would use 1ml in 100 ml so now that you have 50 ml you use 0.5 ml of your preservative. You can also simply Google it if you want to.

I have been reading Shea moisture products to find out what preservatives they use however, it’s very difficult because the preservative is used for another purpose and the same for parabens. It seems like they are hiding info from us.
