I found out the hard way that bacteria was in my lotions and a lot of diy videos on body butters do not address this issue or put alchohols or preservatives in there videos. I thought being all natural was the way to go but it was way more harmful for me in the long run. I had no idea why I kept getting frequent infections and couldn't tell my lotions were even bad so keep that in mind. There needs to be more information for diy lotions out there so thank you for this. Think I may go with isopropyl alchohol just a little to help keep my diy products clean

@kaylagarcia8118 Жыл бұрын
@@taylorcowles3538 It's something people really overlook because they do not understand until they get sick. I got really bad nail infection had to take a very harmful antibiotic that was hard on my kidneys to get rid of the infection bacteria is no joke. It will happen in any lotion you create without a alcohol preservative like cetyl alcohol as an example people think because it's natural it wont hurt you but there is a reason why they use them because if they didn't people would become very ill. You can put less preserves in there but the awareness needs to be out there about this especially from people that are making these videos

This is a great video about preservatives! Tara, you did an excellent job. I use Liquid Germal Plus in almost everything. It is such a reliable preservative. There are some others I use and keep on hand. Like Luicidal Complete for skin conditioning, but always use another preservative like LGP. I also use Optiphen and Optiphen Plus in a few formulations. Hope this helps some new people out there. I also suggest staying within each preservatives usage rates. They are there for a reason!

@TaraLeee4 жыл бұрын
Awwh thank you so much! I am glad you enjoyed it. I don't personally combine preservatives. I just use broad spectrum preservatives. If you want to create your own preservative system you need to use two or more preservatives that protect against yeast mold and bacteria. The best way to find which percentages is best is to try different combinations of percents and have them lab tested. So this is why I advise just using a broad spectrum preservative system. It is much cheaper.

@anakadam200004 жыл бұрын
all preservatives that contain phenoxy ethanol, are very effective in preserving for example optiphen (plus), verstatil PE, euxyl PE but they do burn some people's facial skin I tried switching to others, such as liquid germall plus, euxyl k903, natural lexgard but the products they preserve are very susceptible to change / instability in tropical climates which are sometimes very hot, also susceptible to microbial contamination if the treatment method is slightly wrong. I will study your video Tara, hope to help me. Thankyou

I’ve luckily never experienced any burning from phenoxyethanol. In my experience it’s always the sorbic acid that burns mine. That sucks you didn’t have luck with liquid germall plus, euxyl k903 and natural lexgard. I’ve never heard of that last one so I’ll have to check it out. Thanks!

Bless you Tara!!!!!! I was having such a hard time finding a perservative to go into my liquid face wash. When I would try to lower the ph of my face wash with citric acid to fit the perservative I had it will lose its lather. Now that I know about the ones that work in a pH of up to 12 I'll be sure to try one of those. Also, I heard you mention that you sometimes use preservatives together. Is it safe to use any two preservatives together to strengthen the way it preserves a product, or do you only recommend using multiple preservatives together when they are needed such as with the phenoxyethanol? ALSO, (lol sorry) I know you can't add fresh fruit and vegetables to the products but what about things like coconut water powder, fresh brewed tea etc.? Thanks!
