I grew up in a “Christian” home with a father who worshipped politics and right wing talk radio, but dutifully went to church. I had always wondered, but have come to the obvious conclusion that he never knew Jesus, and I pray for his eternal soul. Both my parents chose Trump early on - when there were numerous other options. They were in love with him from the day he came down that escalator…he was instantly their “Orange Jesus” - as if he had descended from the clouds on high - “the one” they were waiting for.

They have embraced the darkness within themselves and are full of hatred and rage. Oddly, they still claim to be Christians, even as they say incongruous things...Jesus did tell us that MANY in that day would say, "Lord, Lord..." and He will tell them, "Depart from Me you workers of evil! I never knew you." I still pray for their repentance and salvation, but have little hope.

@@StartAtTheEnd Yes, I can imagine that it´s very hard. People have been taught to believe only the accepted propaganda and that all else is “fake news. We who see through this hoax should thank God. “Your eye is like a lamp that provides light for your body. When your eye is healthy, your whole body is filled with light. But when your eye is unhealthy, your whole body is filled with darkness. And if the light you think you have is actually darkness, how deep that darkness is!” (Matthew 6:22-23) The Trump inauguration crowd size dispute in January 2017 should have convinced all that he´s not to be trusted, but it didn´t. It´s will over reason. Repeat the lie over and over till people swallow it, despite all evidence. We must believe that most of those who are under this great delusion will wake up. You both are authentic, genuine, and transparent in sharing your lives and experiences that "shaped" you. Even as a 'PK' (Pastor's kid), as is Tim Alberta! Leaning on your own understanding, in lieu of trusting the Lord, as I/we see, that has spread so deep and wide. Jesus did warn of the leaven of hypocrisy. And you're so right, pastor Pat, to say that Jesus did speak hard to His own people. As the Pharisees and scribes as harshly in condemnation as any, that used their power, tradition, over their people, their "neighbors." And "neglected the weightier matters of the law; justice and mercy and faith." Per Jesus. Reminds me of when Jesus spoke of those men who picked up stones to cast upon the woman, "that sinner", "those sinners", then, (that we all are), today and for decades now, the Bible is used. Yes, a sad witness to our neighbors, the world, as as you rightly say, using Christ's Name. which, in turn, has turned off many of our "neighbors" away from Jesus. You both hit it big that CHARACTER MATTERS! And as we see, through Jesus in His condemnation of the Pharisees that becoming "Hypocrites!" is a huge sin that has met with condemnation by Jesus. As well as when Jesus separates the sheep from the goats. The Good Shepherd did say that "My sheep hear My voice." Yet, as we have seen, the many have heard Trumps voice and all the other voices that parrot Trump's words and heart. Influencing many and as you shared yourself. "Bad company corrupts good character" is evident and a sad truth, reality. The temptation of Satan to, towards Jesus, is an excellent point, because we do also wage that spiritual battle and temptations, along with our fallen and sin nature that can lead any of us astray too, if we are not vigilant in the Lord. Love your 'Pastor to Pastor' conversation and in highlighting Tim Alberta's excellent book and his wise insights, experiences, discernment,...to the truth, and The Truth! "As iron sharpens iron," we appreciate your good character to speak truth to power, authentically, by your genuine love for one another AND our neighbors! Who and What JESUS is all about, LOVE. Keep up speaking truth, God's Truth, in love and being that "good and faithful servant!" God's blessings and covering be upon you to continue your witness and being A Light in this dark world! Faith, Hope, and Love. But the greatest of these is Love!

The church has presented a delapidated version of love at best for a long time. This is why the end of Matt 25 is so important. Both sides seemed confused: "lord when did we give you food and water to drink?" Or the worse fate: "lord when did we not visit you in prison?" Perhaps we should not be so self assured. I personally feel that until the church repairs it's relationship with lgbt and women, that the "body of christ" will remain ineffective. Yall chided when the millennials left the church, but it was for good reason. Remember Jesus' reference to the Queen of the South and Jonah? You didnt see this coming bcs you refused to see what was already happening. I refer again to the end of Matt 25. Be sure who you are in that story- if you find the Bible to be true.

Good points. Humility has been severely lacking in many "Christian" churches for a very long time. Especially among charismatics and evangelicals, who have declared for decades that so many Christians aren't even Christians because we don't agree with them on everything.

I see some bad recommendations in the comments which may look good or correct on the surface but aren't. Learn the lesson of history. The church in Europe tried to ignore politics and the world around it in world war 2 by turning inward also. As a result they lost people who viewed them as an obsolete institution to their everyday lives and matters that affected them. The European church never really ever recovered their bad choices. Everyday Europeans still view the church as obsolete eighty years later. So people calling for ignoring politics and just working on the church are more a problem then solution. Hitler was killing Jews, Gypsy's,and Slavs, in each country he invaded. The church sought to appease him by not being critical or getting in his way. They just "played church" instead.
@JudithRev17142 ай бұрын
I am not sure if I understood you right. There should be a balance of not ignoring and not engaging too much, if you know what I mean. The book is about not engaging too much. I grew up in East Germany, our church often was only political. One reason that I left because I needed the gospel and not politics. But I agree with you that the church failed in the 1930s. Christians should be aware of the situation but focus on the gospel.

I don't think many church going believers in those horrible days had the courage to take a stand against Hitler. It will be much worse this time bc now there's social media, AI, and Ancestry DNA databases to instantly find all Jews. Ultimately, the TenBoom family were betrayed by SS pretending to be church people. Paul was spot on when he said "do not be deceived, God is not mocked, whatever a man sows he will also reap!" We need to keep our eyes fixated on Jesus, the author & finisher of our faith and let the Holy Spirit purge everything in us that offends our Holy Lord! And then when we've done everything, try to stand. I personally can't imagine their horror & their helplessness. Whole countries collapsed under the Blitzkrieg - how could anyone believer take a stand? And yet there were heroes ...

I'm wondering if -- after going through your favorite passage, Romans 1:26-32 -- you've read Romans 2:1-4.
