Yes, Haendel was indeed born a German, but by the time he wrote this he was a fully naturalised British citizen; he realised that Britain was so amazing that he decided to become part of this great land himself - even anglicising his name to Handel! From an Australian who is proud of his mother country.

Zadok the Priest (HWV 258) is a coronation anthem composed by George Frideric Handel (1685--1759) using texts from the King James Bible. It is one of the four Coronation Anthems that Handel composed for the coronation of George II of Great Britain in 1727.[1] and has been sung at every subsequent British coronation service. It is traditionally performed during the sovereign's anointing.

Zadok the Priest is an anthem about the anointing of King Solomon of Israel so the words always have been and always will be God Save the King as these were taken from the Biblical account in reference to Solomon not the UK monarch. The Biblical account was first read at the coro nation of King Edgar of England in the late 10th century prior to the Norman Conquest and the account has been used in every coronation since then - and put to music by Handel for the coronation in 1727. It’s supposed to be in reference to the belief that the monarch is anointed in the manner of King Solomon and the use of the Biblical account is meant to remind the monarch being crowned of the sanctity of their vow at the coronation. 1 Kings 1:39 is part of the account: “And Zadok the priest took an horn of oil out of the tabernacle, and anointed Solomon. And they blew the trumpet; and all the people said, God save king Solomon”(KJV)
