Yes, Haendel was indeed born a German, but by the time he wrote this he was a fully naturalised British citizen; he realised that Britain was so amazing that he decided to become part of this great land himself - even anglicising his name to Handel! From an Australian who is proud of his mother country.

We are also NOT your mother country, you're a part of the commonwealth (although I'm not sure how you get the wealth bit tbh). Australia has an amazing history, yes the Brits invaded (like they did everywhere tbh, as if it was a trend), but the UK is not the motherland of Australia.

Few years back I visited Windsor Castle and in the chapel, as I walked in, this was in full swing, absolutely mesmerising and very powerful, a wall of music. Never will I forget that moment.

I remember hearing it on a headset while taking a tour of Westminster Abbey, and just imagined what the scene might have been like back in June 1953 during the Coronation.

Generally, the 'hook' of the composition is the dramatic "Zadok the priest..." Choral entry point...but couldn't we languish in the prelude of sweet rhythmic strings for hours and hours?...pure musical magic 💥🌟✨

Zadok the Priest (HWV 258) is a coronation anthem composed by George Frideric Handel (1685--1759) using texts from the King James Bible. It is one of the four Coronation Anthems that Handel composed for the coronation of George II of Great Britain in 1727.[1] and has been sung at every subsequent British coronation service. It is traditionally performed during the sovereign's anointing.

I have sung this with 150 other singers and almost a full orchestra, for the Queen's Coronation celebration on the Isle of Man. Very stirring! We are just ordinary people, not trained singers. But its a great sound. And yes, it does sum up all that's great about Britain, and people in general. There should be more singing like this. Join a choral group - you won't regret it!

Zadok the Priest is an anthem about the anointing of King Solomon of Israel so the words always have been and always will be God Save the King as these were taken from the Biblical account in reference to Solomon not the UK monarch. The Biblical account was first read at the coro nation of King Edgar of England in the late 10th century prior to the Norman Conquest and the account has been used in every coronation since then - and put to music by Handel for the coronation in 1727. It’s supposed to be in reference to the belief that the monarch is anointed in the manner of King Solomon and the use of the Biblical account is meant to remind the monarch being crowned of the sanctity of their vow at the coronation. 1 Kings 1:39 is part of the account: “And Zadok the priest took an horn of oil out of the tabernacle, and anointed Solomon. And they blew the trumpet; and all the people said, God save king Solomon”(KJV)
