Drum Talk

2 жыл бұрын

In this video I take out my collection of pro-mark sticks and talk about them.. Hopefully it will help you decide on a model that works for you, or helps you to get a better idea on what they look like. With so many different models and sizes available it can be difficult to choose.
Pro-mark was founded in 1957 by percussion instructor and shop owner Herb Brochstein in Huston, Texas.

@@maviroy I've actually never had a pair of 747B but I don't generally use a B model. I may actually try and go to guitar center and see if I can check it out.

Deciding between Rebound 5B and 747B for heavy metal. Any thoughts?

I would say the 5b is your best choice if you are a heavy hitter! they are very thick and hard to break. i've never owned 747B but i have 1 single stick with a nylon tip, and it's like a tree branch, it's a big old stick! give them both a try and let me know what you think, id like to hear your experience with the 2.

I've been playing ProMark since 1973 In fact I have a pr of Rock Knockers that were made in the 70's that have butt ends on both ends. I used them in marching band in high school. In the 70's the first 747's had an hour glass shape in the barrel. I wish I still had a pr of those. These days I use Ahead 7A's and play on a Yamaha and a Roland Edrum set. Happy stickin'.

I played with those in the mid 90s as a kid. Good for bashing.

I've seen some drum players with really long promark drumsticks. They look like they were maybe 19 to 20 inches and thin. I've been searching but can't find any of them. Any idea of the name of what I'm trying to find or if it's just discontinued?

yes, i think you are talking about hot rods. they are also called splash sticks. several thin dowels bundled together.

Started off with Promarks then moved on to other brands then came back to Promark. Best sticks in my opinion.I have around 60 pairs,mostly of Promark and Vic Firth..All l use now are 5a Rebounds, the 747 Neil Pearts and the 5a La specials Nylon tip sticks which surprisingly hold up well and feel great. Plus only like $4 a pair.. Sticks have gotten too expensive lately but luckily the Neil peart 747s last forever and the La specials are cheap in price and hold up just as long as some regular promarks that I've used. I definitely enjoyed this video. You have a great collection of sticks!

Thanks for commenting in! The 747s sure are amazing no mater what you choose, oak or hickory. Thanks for telling me about the LA specials. I was wondering about thoes sticks if they were any good but i was afraid to buy them to find out. I had goten my hands on a pair of nova sticks by vic virth and they are very strong. Perhaps i will get a brick of the LA specials and try them out thanks for watching im glad you commented in.

@@Prizmatic1658 I have a bunch of Nova 5a nylon tips. I like them more than the the regular Vics and way cheaper. I've had a pair at my practice that just dont break lol.

I used 747s for a long time when I started playing back in the '80s. I've been using Regal Tip Jazz sticks for a few years and I love them but they are hard to get now. I am thinking of trying the 747s again. How is the quality since D'Addario purchased Promark? Also is the oak version considerably heavier than the hickory?
@Prizmatic1658
@Prizmatic1658 10 ай бұрын
I would say the quality is still good. I haven't had a problem with them breaking. The 747 is a nice pair but i have actually discovered another pair that i prefer even more, 727 oak. 747 are great for hard rock, but all other situations i live oak 727 nylon tip. You may wann check them out. Its bigger than a 7a but smaller than a 5a

Vic Firth we’re great until zildjian bought them. Promark got better when daddario bought them. Plus the players circle rewards program daddario has is great. I use their points system to get all my promark sticks and heads now
