Just recently got myself a pair of 5B Forward Balance in Hickory and in their new Firegrain series and so far I'm really enjoying them! But now I'm really starting to find some issues with my playing style with the Forward Balance sticks, so I'm now trying out the Rebound Balance sticks

Just switch back to Vic faith, found promark to just not feel right compared, and this is after years of playing different promark stick.

how many cymbals do you break a month?
@BenMinal
@BenMinal 10 жыл бұрын
Hardly any, maybe one every 6 months when I'm gigging regularly. Angle them so you're not playing directly 90 degrees of the edge and they'll last longer.

I like the weight of a 5b but want the size of a 5a as they feel more comfortable but are too light

Rearward grip reminds me of the proper way to grip a Japanese sword - it's all ring, pinky and thumb.

i don't play ProMark stick because they break within a week. i even owned 4 pairs of japanese oak sticks and they lasted me maybe a few months. i have the vic firth version of them and they've lasted over 6 months (then again i haven't been playing all that much)
@paxtonsingleton2317

It depends . I started playing with the cheapest sticks i could find and they lasted fine most of the times. Then i switched to pro mark and believe it or not one pair lasted 8 months . Wood is like a living thing . Its not consistent . Thats why sticks of the same pair may have a slight difference in weight . Your sticks can brake or not brake for many reasons , based on the way you hit ,you play ,what you hit and what you play . You can have sticks that last for months and sticks that last for two weeks . When we are talking big brands its almost the same. Wood is not as consistent as other matterials . I love pro mark.

5rotflol it's funny you say that. I've had a pair of Promark 747s in Japan Oak for about 7 years of consistent playing and they still hold up fine, I don't typically use them for rock stuff, I prefer stuff like 5Bs for that, but they were the first pair of drumsticks my grandfather got me, I still use them and they still work great. I did buy a pair of SD1s for concert band from vicfirth and they were shot within a semester, since then I've only used promark SD1s

Thanks Cliff, glad it was useful. Playing from the back of grip (or more importantly feeling the energy from the back) is a great way to get more power without burning your wrists out. What else would be helpful to learn? Always looking for feedback on new videos.
