Promising New Dwarf Tomatoes for 2023

This year I am trialing four new varieties of dwarf tomatoes, three of which are still under development and one that was released earlier this year. All four varieties were developed to be rich sources of anthocyanin, a plant pigment that gives fruits a purple, blue or red color. Although only one of the four are available for purchase this year, I can’t wait to see how they all do!
I also planted four of my favorite dwarf tomato varieties from last year. All four of them were outstanding varieties, producing lots of great tasting tomatoes in a variety of colors, shapes and sizes.

Growing a few of these "dwarf tomato project" strains this year. ln a greenhouse and outdoors Gonna grow those exclusivity outdoors next year with saved seeds, save space in the greenhouse for peppers, etc.

@@veggy360 We have 'Dwarf Saucy Mary' (the shortest plants) 'Dwarf Franklin County', 'Dwarf Egypt Yellow' (the earliest tomato) and l think 'Dwarf Stony Brook'. Growing them at 55 degrees North and change in the Skeena Valley in British Columbia. Too early to see which varieties perform best here yet, but l will save plenty of seeds from all of them for our future community garden uses and to distribute freely next year at the annual 'Seedy Saturday' along with some unique flower seeds like 'ALASKA' marigold or large flowered dahlias we are growing in our community garden this year and other veggies. Making my own onion seeds this year, some 'Borettana' onions & a bunch of Washington state grown onions that were forgotten in the community hall's pantry for months and were planted in the field along with a few of our 2022 garden's remaining 'Blush' onions as an experiment. The 'Blush' onions are awesome! Great keepers too. l wanna see what happens. The Borettana onions are far away from these onions. l'm hoping to get some hybridisation between the 'Blush' onions and the brawny Washington state onions. l just recently got promoted to 'head gardener' and quite enjoy being able to do these experiments.

@@veggy360 Thank's, eh? lt is fun and a great way for a 58 year old aluminium smelter retiree like me to keep busy and stay in shape. l LOVE the friendships with the crew too. We hang out after work and have a few... Also growing ' 'Dwarf Laura's Bounty' as well. Checked the list... found it on it.

I am sorry about that. I recorded the video at the Pearson Cancer Center, where the tomatoes are growing. Unfortunately the very large and noisy HVAC system is next to the garden and it creates a lot of background noise. I used editing software to scrub out as much of the background noise as possible without affecting my voice quality too much...I think I need to try a different software program.

I am in zone 7a. The average last frost is April 23 and the first frost is October 19.

I love these dwarf tomatoes but it would be very helpful if you repeat the actual names a few more times during the sentences. Even when I write them down, the repetition would help us remember them when it’s time to order them in the winter! Not a complaint, but just a hint to help us remember them better!

​@@veggy360I disagree, very easy to follow video. Anyone can pause and rewind if they need to check the information. Maybe add chapters in the titled with each plant to make that easier but not really necessary
