What would be really cool is to have a prone board with a recessed covered spot for the battery that you can use with the integrated mast for a slick set up.

This has been done already by a few people. If you search in the foildrive owners group using the key word “recessed box” you should find all the posts related to this

cool , very helpful your explanation ....had success with pumping yesterday.... will change the box position to the middle and try again as we had the box in front. Ready for some waves!
@dominichoskyns90912 жыл бұрын
Glad it helped. I much prefer having the box in the middle (just to the side of my front foot) as opposed to in front of my front foot - its allowed me 100% freedom of movement and as an added bonus it means there is less swing weight as well. As long as you are up on your elbows while lying on the board it doesn't get in the way - it means you cant really paddle with your arms but I set the cruise control at 36% and let foildrive do all the hard work for me!!!! Sometimes I help out with one arm if I've got a long way to 'paddle'. Have fun in the waves!!!!!!!!!!!

How much do you weigh? Im 82kg and I have done this in the past with a 43 ltr board. Its definitely possible but it gets through the battery a bit quicker which is why I went for a bit more volume. If you're 70kg or under then 39ltrs could work really well. If you're heavier than me then you might need to use a bigger foil, but it should work

It's really hard to tell where your battery box is mounted. It looks like it's on the portside by front foot. Do you actually lay on top of the box when you're in the prone position? I have a Kamala E3 6'1" and I'm thinking of mounting box at very rear ... I guess my legs would rest on it while in prone position. Anyone else put it on rear for proning? (Foil Drive Plus 1st generation)

Using Aluminum prop? Any thoughts on the different props: aluminum, hard plastic, soft plastic? Thanks
@dominichoskyns90912 жыл бұрын
So far on the FoilDrive plus I've only used the aluminium props but at some point I'll swap them out for the plastic props and do a wick review. When I had the original FoilDrive I swapped the white plastic props with the grey plastic props (less fragile) and I found that you lost a bit of thrust with the grey props, but if you foil in waters that has debris which can damage the white props then they are your best option as they are much less likely to be damaged. I guess the aluminium props are when more durable 😁

How do you stop the battery box sinking and losing connection with hand controller?

I mount the box just to the side of my front foot. Here a link to my Instagram post that shows it. I have more pictures on Instagram that show the mounting plate in place. You can buy the mounting plate and strap from FoilDrive instagram.com/p/Cc3aX5RruU4/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=

Awesome! What length mast and where do you have foil drive set? Also what power setting do you use? Thank You for all the videos!
@dominichoskyns90912 жыл бұрын
Here in on my 85cm mast. 8" below the board or 9" is its choppy. If I'm on a shorter mast (70-75cm) I reduce that to either 7" or 8". It's important to have enough room for pitch control when efoiling out back or either the board keeps slapping against the water which causes drag, or the motor comes out of the water too much. When I'm downwinding I have the motor 7" below the board on my 85 mast as I'm not efoiling at all when downwinding.

@@dominichoskyns9091 so you think it's a bit of a sketch this mode using the Takuma 75cm mast ?
@dominichoskyns90912 жыл бұрын
@@tom-foil a longer mast makes it easier for sure but if all I had was a 75 I'm sure I'd make it work😂 Mast length is mostly about practice. Initially you'll breech more with a 75, so it will force you to improve your pitch control. With practice I'm sure it'll be OK but there's no doubt an 85 is easier as it gives more room for error, especially if the water state is choppy

83 kg on a 32 l Board did only manage to sink the beast so did not work . Questions : 1) my other boards are for wing surfing is better to shape surfboards specifically for prone foiling ? 2) I have a 50l and 70 l board with 83 kg. Which one should I go for . have you had any issues with the leash getting cut by the prop? it looks like its so close.

None at all, even when I had to use a longer leash than normal after my usual one broke (from getting wrapped around the mast in a nasty shore break)

Have you tried moving the foil down the mast to the e-foil position whilst catching waves? Does at create a lot of extra drag / instability?
@dominichoskyns90912 жыл бұрын
If you're catching waves you want the motor high on the mast not low down, the point of FoilDrive is that you can use it as an assist to help you get on foil and then it's out of the water when you're foiling so there's no drag. You'd only have it low on the mast for full efoiling
@Truthseeker2000-e1s2 жыл бұрын
Hi Dominic, yeah, can understand that if your motoring out to catch sets of waves, I'm thinking if I'm 90% efoiling catching a very occasional wave is there much instability / drag starting / stopping the motor completely underwater?
@dominichoskyns90912 жыл бұрын
@@Truthseeker2000-e1s there's no more drag if you start or stop the motor underwater but when you stop the motor underwater the sudden loss of thrust means you have to shift your weight back a bit or you pitch forward

what do you think of the gen2, should i get gen 1? cus gen2 is too expensive
@dominichoskyns909111 ай бұрын
The gen 1 assist plus is still a very capable system. It can still be used successfully for all the things I’ve been using it for. The gen 2 system is definitely an upgrade and that higher performance obviously comes with a higher price tag, but it doesn’t mean the assist plus isn’t a good product any more. If I wasn’t working for foil drive I would still be on the assist plus and loving it

Any idea how many kms you are going for average speed. I am not getting more than 7km distance out of standard battery doing essentially the same thing but with a bigger board and a lot less skill (my pump game is still rubbish)? Another great video - well done!
@dominichoskyns90912 жыл бұрын
Thanks Matt👍 This was on the kujira 1440 and in the few times I remembered to start my gps watch I was getting average speeds of 20kmh and top speeds of just over 25kmh. I'm my experience the 1440 tops out around there so if I want to go faster I'll have to get good enough to use a smaller foil. I mostly use the 1095 for winging and that goes a lot faster than the 1440 so it'll be crazy if I can use that foil for this in this spot 😜

are you using cruise control or just manual clutch?
@dominichoskyns90912 жыл бұрын
You hold a wireless trigger which operates the throttle. The more you pull the trigger the faster you go so you can regulate your speed to what you need at any time. It also has a cruise control function which most people set at 30% for helping to paddle out. You use full throttle (100%) for taking off and you generally use between 70-90% when efoiling around
