Vestigial structures are evolution's leftovers - body parts that, through inheritance, have outlived the context in which they arose. Some of the most delightful reminders of the common ancestry we share with other animals, they show that the building blocks of the human body predate our species by hundreds of millions of years.
Forty-two percent of Americans say that humans were created in their present form within the past 10,000 years - a percentage that hasn't changed much since 1982, when Gallup started polling views on evolution.
Several lines of evidence, from the fossil record, comparative anatomy, and genetics, tell another story. But you don't have to read all the research to find signs of our evolutionary history - you can see it in the vestigial structures in each of our bodies, like the third molars that no longer fit in our mouths. For a few other examples, check out the video above.

My ears move. Happens when i'm in a quiet room or focus on listening. People have said i am an excellent listener lol. And i can hear really faint sounds that others can't, and i feel this tension in my ears like they are moving around to detect the sound. Feels weird. Idk if this is actually related, but maybe the people that have these evolutionary quirks can actually use them, just based on my own experience with moving cat-like ears. Idk

Fun tid bit. It’s possible to have two Palmarus Longus in one or each arm. I have two in each. Also there is a strong correlation between those that have the palmarus longus, and sports that regularly require grip strength. I haven’t had mine checked, but I suspect that the two I have in each arm, are actually set counter to each other. It would explain the intense burning fatigue I experience after brief exertion.

No, you don't have two. The human forearm is full of muscles and tendons extending into the hand. It's more than likely that it's one of the other flexors, the Flexor Carpi Radialis. @dacasman
@dacasman 8 жыл бұрын
+gcft yeah and people aren't brainwashed into believing everything was suddenly brought into existence by an all powerful God? At least science tries to prove things with evidence rather than relying on a 3400 year old book with a bunch of shoddy explanations and double standards. Not to mention all the ridiculously heinous things in it. But modern Christians just brush all that under the rug because that's inconvenient, isn't it. :)
@dacasman
@dacasman 8 жыл бұрын
***** Here's the thing. Creationists will never believe in evolution simply because the bible says creationism is the truth. No matter how much scientific evidence is shown to them, they will always come up with the same argument "God did it" Christianity is a package deal. If you believe in God and the Bible you HAVE to accept it as truth. But Christians tend to cherry pick certain things from the bible that they think are true and sweep others under the rug. Science is NOT a package deal. Science is based on observing reality and coming up with non biased explanations of how reality works. Anybody can do science and come up with similar results. Science is repeatable. and you can't just not believe in science. that's like saying "I don't believe in math" BUT, Creationist and certain Christians WILL ignore science. People that will ignore observations of reality that are based on actual evidence simply because their religious book says otherwise is what I considered brainwashed.

Summary: The human body has a number of vestigial structures and reflexes, remnants of our evolutionary history, such as the palmaris longus muscle in the wrist, the muscles attached to the ear, the response to cold temperatures that causes goosebumps, the tailbone, and the palmar and plantar grasp reflexes in infants. These structures and reflexes once served a purpose for our ancestors but are no longer necessary or have diminished functionality in humans.

thats kinda the point though right, atheists need evolution because that is the only theory they have, but religious people have god. Because of this there is no real debate just facts and opinions. Evolution is deeply rooted into naturalism and you can clearly see it with the reverse logic used in all the experiments.
@dayweed85
@dayweed85 7 жыл бұрын
"atheists need evolution" -- wroooooooong. evolution doesnt belong to atheists, the majority of theists accept it aswell. at least in the west. and some atheists dont accept it " but religious people have god." -- god being an imaginary friend. how intellectually enriching. naturalism is all we have. the scientific method only works with the natural. supernatural is supernatural precisely because it cannot be tested by science. if it could, it wouldnt be supernatural anymore.

Moon Orchid "the universe is simply and easily seen with cause and effect." then what was the first cause? You already have a fundamental problem. "The basis is life is very logical and straight forward " --if that were the case then every scientific study done under "evolution" would reach a conclusion through its facts. However this is not the case you need a prior worldview in methodological naturalism. You then need to assume and deduce facts which do not exist to make each and every study seem "logical". The entirety of evolution is conjecture and the worst kind with fallacy after fallacy. if you only have .00000000000001% of the pieces to a puzzle jumping to a conclusion is utterly stupid. Yet this is what evolution does. "randomness" means we do not know thus we cannot make any solid predictions or create any models. Just about every area in evolution has "randomness" added in some where. That's not good, not good at all....

Isn't it amazing that men have one less rib than women? Question, where did all the plants come from? Did they crawl out of the 'soup' too? Why are there still single-celled organisms if there is no primordial soup to spontaneously produce them? Are they the dumb ones that simply didn't evolve after BILLIONS of years?
@Xenotaris
@Xenotaris 5 жыл бұрын
@@kalikale3969 Evolution is a tree, not a ladder. Every lifeforms evolves to what ever the environmental pressures demands of them. There is no goal to evolution, it is a freeform process gradual change in an organism. Also microbe have changed since the origin of life billions of years ago, microbial life evolves faster than macrobial life.
@kalikale3969
@kalikale3969 5 жыл бұрын
@@Xenotaris Thank you for the reply though it really didn't answer the questions. I'm still confused. What kind of environmental pressure back in the beginning cause the lifeforms to evolve into plants and which came first grass or trees? Are bushes or vines the link between the two? I'm not being glib here. I really want to know. I also realize that microbes can change in the blink of an eye pretty much but why are they still microbes after so long? Did they escape all the environmental pressures?
@Xenotaris
@Xenotaris 5 жыл бұрын
@@kalikale3969 well grass is actually way younger than certain clades of trees (Pine and Ferns). Grass evolved towards the end of the dinosaur's reign. herbivorous dinosaurs grazed on many different fern plants and flowering plants which grass originated from evolved in the Cretaceous Period (the last time period of the dinosaurs). To answer you on the environmental pressure on how microbes evolve in to all of us (plants, animals, and macro-fungus): there was this organism called Mitochondria and a group of prokaryotic cells assimilated these mitochondria, this turned them into a Eukaryotes or cells with a nucleus. The mitochondria were able to produce oxygen, which helped oxygenate the earth's oceans which lead to an extinction event called the Oxygen Catastrophe, which wiped out a lot of the prokaryotic cells that were oxygen intolerant. This lead to the rise of Eukaryotes to dominate the earth and we (Plants, Animals, and Fungus) are their decedents.

The other vestigial organ is the frontal lobe. In early hominids it was useful to improve thinking, tool making and coordinated effort between individuials, but nowadays is just a vestigial organ that almost no-one uses and some humans even seem to lack one.
