Since we're still focusing a lot on the Ghost Children and "the mirror room," I'm going to mostly copy & paste my comment from last week and just edit based on today's additional details: If we assume the Ghost Children are in fact real: Lots of old myths exist around mirrors-Some of them including a Mirror's relationship with souls and the ability to capture them. (If I remember rightly, that's part of where the superstition about a broken mirror causing 7 years of bad luck comes from) This could explain both why the Beldam chooses to put Coraline there-The mirror traps souls in any and all forms-And possibly the missing children's eyes as well. Perhaps the Beldam had to place at least one eye in the mirror to keep their souls trapped there (so the children still "have" them in that sense, as that's what their spirits are tied to), and kept the other for herself. Maybe for a souvenier, maybe to re-capture the ghost children if the other eye(s) went missing, or maybe specifically as a bargaining chip for Coraline (which would be the most plausible for your Limbo theory). And in turn, that could explain why the Beldam wants the _eyes_ specifically in the first place, beyond her ability to "fuel" and control the Otherworld-The eyes are tied to the soul, which is another common association: "The eyes are the _window_ to the soul," etc. Then, maybe once Coraline brings the eyes back to the real world (if she does in fact make it back and isn't stuck in Limbo), the children _can't_ be bound to the Otherworld as long as part of their soul is still bound to the real world. Which also works as another reason why the Beldam would want said eyes-It's not just a physical attachment for the soul to cling to, but also a very clear reminder the children can still come and go freely as long as they possess at least one of their own eyes and make it back to the real world. The Mirror and Souls could also explain how the Beldam expects Caroline to be able to come out and why she wouldn't necessarily be alarmed to find she'd "escaped" the mirror on her own-Maybe the Mirror does in fact have some ability to open itself depending on what Caroline is feeling in her Soul, so if she were to _truly_ come around to the Beldam's side in some way, down to her Soul, it would have opened for her. And then perhaps Other Wybie is able to pull Coraline out because the mirror assumes "this is something made by the Beldam without a child's soul, therefore its allowed to retrieve souls from in here." Wouldn't surprise me if the Beldam is used to having her underlings take children in and out of the mirror on her behalf., Additionally, between Scene 23's analysis and the Soul idea, also if we're assuming the Ghost Children are real and not just puppets, maybe the Beldam simply _can't see_ their ghosts for some reason. That could explain how 3 of them ended up trapped in the mirror together and the Beldam would put Caroline in there without a second thought, and then the ghost children themselves don't realize it-They hide under the blanket when they hear or feel the Beldam near by out of a habit of being terrified of her, and that in turn keeps the Beldam from realizing that they're manifesting as ghosts even behind the mirror. Alternatively, it could just be that as wayward souls, the ghost children are just cold and huddle for warmth. Remember the sentiment of people often experiencing cold chills when spirits are nearby. It's not like they really have anything better to do or take their minds off of it if they're trapped in there.

In the graphic novel, one of the kids was a fairy and was trapped with a fairy ring. So that checks out.

I think the ghost room works where anyone can enter but if you fully go in then you are stuck. The other mother never fully enters the room and that’s probably why Wybie was sent to Coraline, because that’s the only way she could have escaped

i think that wybie showing his sawdust hand is him saying that he cant survive in the real world. i don't think they're just pupets. i think they would be powered by magic. magic that the other mother gets from the kid souls.

I think the reason why the other wybie put his hands over his eyes is because the other mother can see thru wybies eyes and he didn't want the other mother to know what he was doing cause the other mother can see thru anything that has buttons

Other wybie being a puppet to lure coraline in a trap was a traumatic thing to do with the bedlam current world being unraveled with the void coraline is being wrapped in fear in place in state of panic and uncertainty Like a bug wrapped in webbing and stick to the web

13:01 I'm pretty sure that's just the rule of three. An old writing trope used in fairytales and fables to make the story or message more memorable. But, the number three is also a sign of good luck, because it's used to symbolize the mind, body and soul. My thought is maybe the Beldam wanted as much luck as possible to trap Coraline. I mean, who knows when she's going to get another chance like this and it's already stated throughout the movie that the Beldam is getting weaker. She's shifting her weight when she stands or walks, the one look she has before her final form screams anorexia and how hard the Beldam is trying to sell her good mother image reeks of desperation.I think she's hungry and wants all the luck in the world to succeed.

Ok. hear me out. What if the reason the tunnel is different when Coraline goes through it is because somehow so way it's powered by the other mother. And what if the ghost children are real to a degree they can be the past victims and she may have given them different clothes before they died, or they are puppets that are based off of previous victims. Also, what if the things we see in the tunnel are from the ghost children or other victims that we don't know about.

to answer your question becase they are SCARED KIDS Coraline is probably older than them and might even be considered an adult in there eyes as back in the old days any one over ten was expected to work cook clean ect and sense she is STILL ALIVE she's got a better chance of winning than them or it might have to do with THE BEDAM HAVEING CONTROLE of and or CHANEELING/DRAINING THERE SOULS or what's left of them at least to power the illusion not to get too personal but say you where attacked by a wild animal and ducked into an abandoned building to get away from it ... would your first instinct be "oh crap i dropped my thing out side id better go get it" the bedlam is for all intent and purpose is an evil adult that's abusing these kids... and keeping them locked in there ether through force or fear of repercussion ... the other dad and other kid are constructs like wind up toys you can give them a script but that doesn't mean they are going to go where you want them to go the beldam uses some of her power to bring them to life but she's running low on energy to put into things that's why the illusion keeps fading colors crow dark rooms more evil or dilapidated and these toys or dolls toys are starting to get uppity and rebellious to the point where she has to physically control and or punish them to keep them in line... my guess being tiny bits of kid soul from where or who ever are giving these constructs life Coraline is also a text book brat but iv already said too much in too strong a voice right now

I agree that otger Whybe is a puppet. But i do also belive that he has some sort of personality when he is 'offline', as seen by how his 'facade' falls when the attention is elsewhere. A theory as to why that is could be that he somehow wandered into the other world and escaped too. His trauma might have repressed the memory, leaving him with simply a feeling of unease around the pink palace. In that case, miss spink and forcible are both excisting both in the real and other world. and coralines other parents are just copies, since they havent really been in the other world. I might be overthinking it, but thats litterally all i do XD

I was thinking about that comment that the ghost boy said, (don't Rennember our names, I find that very strange and unlikely that they wouldn't remember there names but remember there mother, which makes it more likely that there just puppets. I was trying to think of a possible reason as to why the other mother wouldn't want coraline to know the identities of those children but I couldn't think of anything, but maybe if the kuboline theory is true, it could foreshadow that the other mother doesn't remember her own name

I feel like there’s two possible reasons that Other Wybie hid his face, one being that he doesn’t want Coraline to see what the Other Mother did, maybe believing that it might scare her. The second and more probable option is that he’s trying to cover his eyes so the Beldam can’t look through them and see that he’s helping Coraline. It makes sense that she would be able to see through his button eyes like she does with the dolls, and it could explain why he was wearing a mask at first.

I know, I'm taking some creative liberties at this point. But in My Little Pony, chrysalis is described as a change lane. She takes the form of someone. You love and gains power by fading off your love for them. I think the Other mother is something similar

Hello from Brasil!!! I love your videos!!!! It doesn't really change anything, I just thought that the Beldam reacting only when Coraline and Other-Wybie knock the bug dresser in the living room could be some form of foreshadowing for later when she turns the whole floor into a web, which was only in that room.

I don't think he felt shame about the stitched smile. It was more so him thinking he had to shield some horrific sight that she may not be able to handle. Or actually the beldam planned that reaction of "don't look at me" to play on her sympathies like u were saying.

What if the reason ghost children can't exit that dark room and lurk around to find their eyes is because the beldam basically has a symbol of their souls (one piece of eye for each kid) and she is actually controlling those poor kids.

Though I do watch some anime that could be classified in the horror genre, over all I am an anime fan. I don’t seek out horror specifically. Onto Coraline: I respect your viewpoint about the ghost children and other Wybie. I personally do not find it to be problematic to accept that the children have died, and that there spirits are trapped in that room on the other side of the mirror. Other stories of hauntings are very similar to that where the spirit can be seen, heard, or felt as an apparition that is confined to a particular area of trauma. And I can believe that other Wybie would not be able to exist in the real world where his real life living counterpart exists. Also, I could be mistaken, because I have not seen Coraline as many times as you have, but I thought that the other Wybie did frown when he was hit with the cotton candy. I am enjoying your videos and I’m really looking forward to when you cover my favorite scene in this movie! I am curious to know if you would consider doing a scene by scene analysis of Kubo and the Two String? You had commented in the past that there is something interesting to see and talk about in every scene of that movie, it really is a beautiful film!

Maybe the beldam has another tunnel when kids are too hard to get. And maybe thats why its all old and dusty, fill with another children toys who wanted to scape and never got out. Since Coraline didnt want the buttons so easily she had to keep doing another things. Makes me so sad to think kids get trapped and die there, I would like to know more about the beldam and the other kids lives, maybe to see more kids also. Cause she since she is soooo old i dont think she only killed 4 before.
