The bike in the tree actually does have a known history, it's easy to find if you look for it. The back story is that a young man owned the bike sometime before the world wars began. He was called off to war and left his bike chained to a tree while he was gone. He never came back to retrieve his bike and his family didn't discover it until the tree had grown around it.
