Thanks for the comparo. Very interesting, but to be fair 21 pitch and 19 pitch props are different animals. If your original prop was 21 pitch and the same diameter, then the comparison would be apples to apples. I have decided to stick with my aluminum propeller after seeing your video since it is half the cost, and better performance on the 21 pitch comparison which honestly surprised me! Thanks again.

Glad it helped. The whole purpose was to look at three popular but different props and compare them. I do have another video coming up where I will compare the exact same prop, but in a different pitch (19 v 21).

Thanks for the comparison. Have you ever tried or considered a 4 blade? What were your improvement objectives for your prop change? When you did the testing, what was your trimming procedure? Thanks.

I ran a merc spitfire 4 blade on a merc 90 4 stroke and loved it. For this 150, I’m looking for top end. Probably not going to get that from a 4 blade. Since I wasn’t timing it, just trying to figure out top speed, I basically trimmed it almost all the way up to get the best on plane speed. Hope this helps.

Did you notice a difference in the amount you were able to trim up between the props?@@tommysgreatoutdoors

Yes. They all trim up WOT the same, but the four blade I had on my last engine cornered a lot better trimmed up. The tempest also cornered a little better than the other two in this video.

Got a similar size boat. Mercury 150hp 4 stroke Running a 19p 4 blade aluminum prop. Great hole shot but only hits about 40 gps at 5300rpms WOT Thinking about upgrading to a 19p tempest stainless for higher speed and keeping the 4 blade for water sports Got any thoughts?

I had a 4 blade on a merc 90 and loved it. Not the fastest prop but it handled great. The tempest stainless is made for the 150. I am getting close to 50 at 6100 RPMs with the 19P. Have a 21P I am testing now and will have a video on that in a month or two.

Of course a lower pitch prop is going to preform better ….. why did you stay consistent with all using a 19pitch prop for a 3??

I started with the 19P Tempest that came with the boat. Performs very well, but wanted 1-2 more MPH and lower the RPMs a little as I am hitting the governor. Therefore going to a 21P was the next step for me. I was trying a few other props while I was at it to see if I could get what I was looking for. In both cases I ended up loosing a few MPH. It looks like the next step now is to take the plunge and get a 21P Tempest for $700-$800.
