Out of a million videos, THIS is what I needed. I bought a half dead geranium at discount at the end of last year, and kept it inside over the winter. It is still alive, but looks like this one at the beginning. I'm not interested in buying plants every year.

Thank you so much, this is the sixth video I have watched and you are the first person to tell me where to cut off the old leggy stems and how to get new growth. Also, I never heard of by-pass shears and now I definitely need to get a pair. I really appreciate your help. B Ferg from hot and humid NC

Thank you for this video. I have geraniums in unglazed terracotta pots on my south-west facing balcony. It gets really hot in summer afternoons. These plants are grown on balconies all around the Mediterranean region; so they can take the heat once properly adapted. You would just need to water more frequently. 🏵

We think the heat is just a different type of heat here through our summers!

Just what I was looking for. I see lots of videos of how to overwinter, but not ones that say what to do when it is time to put them back out.

I just pruned my really wild and woody over wintered (in a classroom) Calliope geranium. I hope it does well. I gave it a little fertilizer. I took some cuttings and have them in water in my sun window (indirect sun) and will see if I can make little baby geraniums! I think I have been over watering, probably because it has been so dry and I feel sorry for my plants. I will let these dry out a little, and plan on watering them less now. I have seen a bunch of geranium videos but none so far talked about watering. Thanks for the great video.
@rainbowgardenstexas5086 Жыл бұрын
Good luck with your cuttings! Definitely use your 'moisture meter' (your finger) to test the soil for moisture before watering. Test by sticking finger to second knuckle. The top inch of soil can look deceiving and make you think you need to water when you might not.

I live on Lake Superior and it snows into April and May. I always bring my geraniums in the house in the winter and they do quite well, I have flowers all year. I just learned they like dry over wet!! Now I'm surprised any of mine lived!.🤨 I have some cuttings in water now to plant. And I'm growing some from seed for this years patio garden (if it ever stops snowing) Thanks! I learned a lot in this video.

"by past" sheers- first time i hear them being called that way- 'makes sense , i know i have one pair that way and i need to check my other pair !!! Geraniums were one of my mother's favorite flowers and she always had a few pots. Now i wish i could ask her if she propagated??!! Your comment about them not liking heat/sun makes me wonder since it's such a classic Mediterranean plant where we are originally from and were she lived at the end of her life. Thank you for all your tips, i am encouraged to take care of my two little sad plants !!!!

My friend covers the top of the soil with pine cones, which discourages cats and other critters from digging up the soil and chewing up the plants.
@rainbowgardenstexas50862 жыл бұрын
Yes as mentioned, it can discourage cats from digging in the soil and as decoration.

Thanks for your video! I bought my geranium in Jun because of its lovely pink flowers, but then their leaves got yellow and brown in summer, maybe heat wave is too strong this year… then I cut them off and only several leaves left, now it has many new leaves in autumn, luckily I didn’t give up it! Hope I can see the pink flowers next year. May I know when will be the best time to use flower food fertiliser?
Informative video. Cameraman needs to zoom in more!

I love Geraniams, but I think I over watered them and they started turning yellow and some brown. I cut off all the brown leafs daily and to top it off I found tiny green worms on one of my three. I leave in New Mexico. I also found little tiny black dots I cleaned them off . They stopped flowering . Little flower butts came out but die after awhile. I will buy some of that flowering fertilizer. Thank you for your information, loved your video. Blessings!

I have been cutting it for many pots now, but they are all leaves no flowers and they grow very tall and big on the ground. It’s all green leaves no flowers.😢 I have killed so many plants now! Like succulents on the grounds are gone after me cutting and then spider plants are gone too after a few cuttings… so hope this won’t be disappeared on me 😄
