Everything you said makes sense, BUT, the leaf of the ivy geranium for me is just SO beautiful so I can’t give it up!

You're exactly right! The leaves are gorgeous as are the flowers.

No wonder I cannot find any ivy geraniums in garden centers anymore. I still have a few ivy geraniums on my balcony and will have to harvest their seeds now. Thank you for a great video.

I've also been looking for ivy geraniums at local stores. I have one that's about 3 years old, is quite large, in beautiful shape, and has gorgeous pink flowers. I've done very little to care for it and it just keeps growing! I've recently taken a few cuttings and stuck them in dirt and am seeing them growing new leaves. I'm not willing to give up on the 'ivy' type yet.

I just mentioned to a friend I haven't seen ivy geraniums in a long time. They used to be a staple in the garden centers. I really liked them...we'll see about the new ones.

Nope, I absolutely love the Ivy Geraniums, and there's no replacement for them. Also, the colors are stunning and not available in other varieties.

I actually think zonal geraniums still have their place in our gardens and are still in demand.

i was gifted an ivy geranium that needed some dead stuff removed from it and earlier this year a zonial Geranium i love all types of Geraniums . The Martha washington Geraniums are also awsome they have soft fuzzy leaves

Calliope geraniums are the only kind I use down here in the south, because they can take the heat and humidity better. Love them.

I don’t like new once. They look artificial, like somebody just stick the blooming stems into green pot. The most beautiful are cascading geraniums, they are Europe’s favourite.

Zone 7 and prefer the ivy. I bought cascading calliope violet this year because i thought it would vine. They are hot garbage plants. Very expensive. Almost no growth after 2 months, and not a single bloom. I dont think they like the heat and humidity. Meanwhile the cheap seed geraniums that i got an entire tray of for the price of calliope are already huge and full of blooms. We need the ivy geraniums back. Much more beautiful in my opinion. Never again on caliope. Expensive mistake.

I would definitely buy the interspecific. Lots of times I was sad because the zonals didnt bloom sa I had hoped. Zonals probably do not have the potencial to bloom all summer long. They bloom, then stop and wake up in october...

These are beautiful houseplants. Where can we buy?

Start by asking at your local nurseries. They might not have these exact varieties, but they might have something similar at different points in the season.

Great video! I’ve never heard of the inter specific geraniums Z

There are still some great zonal geraniums out there (we'll still carry a few that are in colors we can't otherwise get). We've just found the interspecifics have characteristics our customers like.
@bellarosa0092 жыл бұрын
@@UpNorthGardenMI They are really beautiful. I'll have to be on the lookout for the interspecific varieties. I was given some seeds of the ivy geraniums tornado in a seed swap. They are really do under my grow lights. I have only grown a few of the zonal varieties from free seeds given to me last year.

Pelargonium comes from the Greek word pelargos, meaning stork. The seed looks like the beak of a stork.

Where can I find interspecific geraniums locally?

Most independent garden centers would not able to point you in the right direction.

Is interspecific an Ivy/zonal hybrid?
@DovidM Жыл бұрын
Yes. Only ivy and zonal geraniums have been used to produce interspecifics. There are several other species that might be used to introduce additional features into interspecifics but, so far, they’ve not been used.
