Propagate Figs From Cuttings In Water

Propagating fig cuttings in water.

My father in law did the same from cuttings he took on our figs and propagated the cuttings in sand. Logic is that the sand hold moisture really, really well. He saw that on another YT video. He was quite successful and needless to say I now have 6 new Chicago Hardy Fig plants for this season. Thanks for the video Khang.

I think I changed it one time, but did refill a few times. I did this during the cool months, so not much algae grew. If you do see algae, clean up the cup and add new water.

Did you cut some of the bark away at the bottom? It looked like it in the video

No I did not do anything with the bark. The cuttings were sent to be as you saw in the video and I just place them in water.

IT's best to propagate the branches when the buds are still dormant. I will give you the best success, but I have done it during the summer and it still works. You will need to cut off all the large leaves.

Figs are awesome! You can’t compare store bought figs to home grown. There’s soooo many varieties with different flavor profiles! One of my favorites is Italian 258 and white Madeira #1! They taste like straight strawberry jam 😋
