HIGHLY RECOMMENDED VIDEO. Short, simple and to the point. NO ROOT hormones, not special soil... MY kind of instructions on how to propagate plants because I don't have the time OR patience for looooong instructions for something that can be said in only a few minutes for the same results.

They are super easy using moist jiffy pellets, small cuttings placed in a sealed bag out of direct sun in a warm area. They root in days, about 14 days. I've not had a single failure. I do it just to give away and as a hobby thing as I love gardens, plants and nature.. You can even make a standard in two seasons from a cutting, better than any standard you will see in garden centres.Those pellets will make harder to propagate plants a breeze too. I think many failures happen as people use compost and it's too wet for cuttings.

Hi, Im in Perth West Australia, been here 60 years from Manchester originally, I found your page while looking for how to take cuttings, thank you very much. I have a fuchsia which has got away from me in that it is almost 3 mars tall and VERY straggly !!!!, do you have any guidance for me to follow on how to prune / trim, it is a prolific flowerer and I don't want to kill it ???. WE are about in the middle of Autumn here and Im not sure of the best time , Im thinking Winter, but as its very mild here it even flowers in winter ????, Hope you can help, many thanks, I'm off to take some cuttings now !!!!!

Hi Nayan so glad to hear you are enjoying your claire austin...i'm looking forward to the blooms this year! 💗💗As for the Fucshia...... my mum lightly prunes her in spring and it bounces back really well... the cuttings that i propagated in this video are really big plants now...so i will experiment with them this season and report back any findings, im going to try pinching out tips to see if that works 😃

Take SMALLER cuttings, they set roots much quicker. Best early in season, harder late season. There Are thousand varieties, and by pinching shoots you skape them as you like. NB!!!!!! Must overwinter inside in winter, they dont tolerate frost, except a couple of varieties. I live in icy vold Norway, and have a collection of around 30 varieties. Remember, the Fuchsias thrive best in shade or halfshade. Good luck!!! 🥰

I have some that rooted (1/2" to 1" long) in water and some didn't yet. It's now getting cold in WA state (pacific northwest) and they're indoors in water. My question is How long can I keep them in water rooted as I'd like to wait as long as possible to plant them in pots (i.e. perhaps early spring when it's possible for them to survive outdoors and mature). Or should I pot them in soil ASAP and keep them indoors until winter is over? Thank you!
@westlondongardener44763 жыл бұрын
Great to hear 😃you could potentially leave them in water as long as they look happy. If they have decent roots i would personally pot them up, and keep the compost moist in first week to help them adapt. Leave the unrooted ones in water as they might need more time.

What is the best temperature for planting it ? My fuchsia turned to a wooden plant only no leaves nor flowers
@westlondongardener44764 жыл бұрын
They should be able to cope with summer heat but not extreme heat. Yesterday in london it was 37 degrees celcius and many of my fuschia flowers heads dried in the extreme heat. They may also turn woody due to not being rooted properly, irregular watering or being in the shade. It might also bw due to location - they can tolerate partial shade but generally require full sun.
