Thank you for your terrifically informative information on the Madagascar palm as they are a magnificently awesome plant! 💖

Really glad I found this! I have a 20-year-old Madagascar that has desperately needed pruning for awhile, but I've been too afraid to try. I have now gone forward and pruned a small section off and added the cinnamon to both the main plant and the cutting. Thank you for this informative video.

I have gotten one 3 or 4 years ago...I have 3 shoots growing on the plant and this summer I seen another one growing...I lost all my leaves for the winter but I put the plant outside when the weather gets warm...it gets so nice when it's outside...wish I could live somewhere so I can keep it outside all the time...right now my plant is 3 feet and the other shoots are have the size of the plant.

I have discovered that I love using baby diapers as gloves when dealing with cactus, works like a charm then you just throw them out after!

On your cutting, will you replant it only when roots come out? Or, do you put in sand immediately so roots will sprout in the sand?

I cut a 5 inch branch from my Pachypodium lamerei and suspended it in a glass of water. Every few days I would change the water and after about 3 months, I had lots of roots. I then planted it in soil and it grew nicely to a height of about 4 feet at this time.
@jadednightdragon5 жыл бұрын
n3evpn3evp that is cool! I'm going to try that. How did you suspend it in the water? And how much was under water?
@n3evpn3evp5 жыл бұрын
@@jadednightdragon I used a plastic lid that you can purchase to put over cans of cat food. I merely cut a hole slightly smaller than the diameter of the plant (thorns included) and pushed it partly through the hole. It is best to change the water often - - every other day - - because algae can grow and also new water has oxygen in it which will help the roots grow. The bottom of the plant was about 1.5 inches below the surface of the water. I did not do it but I suppose you could add root growth hormone powder to the water for faster root development.
@jadednightdragon5 жыл бұрын
n3evpn3evp do you put it immediately put it in water, or did you let it calous over then put it in water? I'm going to give this a shot and post it on my Facebook group.

How soon after do you plant it after it get’s a callus?
@rebeccafishtitties42665 жыл бұрын
After it calices do you leave it out to grow roots or plant it in soil
@MadagascarMadness5 жыл бұрын
Rebecca Fish titties sorry it took me so long to get back to you! Once it calices place it on top of soil and mist the trunk every few days. Also remove all the leaves from the cutting. These two tips I learned from members of my group 🙂

Helllloo! Thanks for the video! I just got myself a little one and apparently I also managed to basically kill it 😭I did get a few cuttings out of it tho and was wondering where and how should I keep them until they hopefully spring back to life? Leave them outside on a table or put them in a shade somewhere? I am so not good with plants and I could use as much information as possible! Thank you! 😊

Can you do your cinnamon method to any plant or this specifically for cacti?
@Phyto.2 жыл бұрын
Use sulfur instead, cinnamon is not reliable.

My madagascar darling of seven years just keeled over and broke in half. Apparently it had rotted from the middle and throughout. It usually looks pretty miserable this time of year, didn't even notice it. Pretty heartbroken about it. The very bottom at the root still looks pretty healthy, and also the top. Do you think that I could use the top for propigation using this method?
@MadagascarMadness4 жыл бұрын
I’m so sorry! I recently had that happen to me with one of my geayi. I have a video on it. It’s heartbreaking. You can definitely try! I would give it a shot. Put some cinnamon powder on the roots and the cuts. The top part callous over and see if you can get it to root.
@MrProgrock4 жыл бұрын
@@MadagascarMadness Thank you, i will give it a try! So, the top part is left to air dry? Should I put cinnamon powder on this as well, or only on the root? This is all news to me, what is the purpose of the cinnamon powder?

Should i remove the babies or leave them? What's best for the main plant?
@jadednightdragon5 жыл бұрын
vlavla845 you can leave the babies on them if you want. I just wanted to propagate one and I found that taking a pup off the base is a good way as it doesn't really leave any scars.

Cooper The Great they don't require much work. My guys are well established and I leave them outside all year round. Sometimes I water them a few times a year.
@Diabolus19784 жыл бұрын
Just water it well and let it almost get completely dry. If u have it indoors in a window turn the pot often so it grows straight. It will bend otherwise towards the light.
@MadagascarMadness4 жыл бұрын
They are cold hardy till 50 degrees F. You have to cover if there’s a threat of frost

Yeah. But the climate they come from is fairly hot. Madagascar and Africa stay fairly warm

I had 100% success but unlike you I desoiled the whole plant . I had 5 branches and I made sure each cutting had some roots . I cut very close to the mother and reported them. Every plant was a success I have new leaf growth also. When I tried other methods with a branch it rotted.
