Thanks for this. I'm in Barbados and I tried to propagate my silver dollar plant in soil without success. This method worked.

Absolutely brilliant and straight forward video thank you so much. I actually propagated my pothos using this method and now I’ve got 3. I’m currently trying to do it again with about 20 cuttings.

Great easy to follow video! I tend to cover my rooting jar with a plastic bag or upside-down clear cup. That helps retain the moist environment for the leaves before they root. It’s worked great for vining plants like ficus pumila and lysimachia for example.

Thanks for these tips :) Question - what is an ideal temperature for root development? I'm assuming during the winter time will be hard for cuttings to develop roots.. ?

And, a straight wall container is easier to remove the cutting when the root system gets growing. Also much easier to put it back in during maintenance.

OMGA Craig, I was waiting for the herbs glass and the bottle bottom, you are the only other person I've seen doing it. I once told my boss that I use bottle bottoms as over pots, and he laughed and told me that I'm like his mother 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 But it works, its free and effective, I often also go to charity shops and see if there any glass items that are cheap and I fancy the look of for my plant shelve. Great video indeed PS: OMGA = oh my giddy aunt 🙈

Thanks bud! Cheap is best for sure. That way if things don't work then the loss doesn't put you off trying again 😁

Are they ready to plant when there are a couple of roots?
@pamelaapgar8184 Жыл бұрын
If the roots do get too long can you cut them down a little and it will be ok? I have done that and the plant seemed fine
@GrowParadise Жыл бұрын
Absolutely. Take care to use clean tools and you should be absolutely fine 👍🙂

I’m just beginning this hobby with some trees I’m trying to propagate. I have a bunch of old Powerade bottles I thought I’d put to use. Hopefully it’ll work, they are quite sturdy so thought they would come in handy for this. Not sure.

@slippinjimmy5275 ай бұрын
I put a house plant in the top of my fish tank some of the roots look maybe like they are dead are starting to go but there is long healthy new roots growing all the way down to the gravel. Would it be ok to clip the non good looking roots off and leave the good ones or will it kill the plant?
@slippinjimmy5275 ай бұрын
There is a bit of algea on the couple spots that it looks like that too so it makes sense what you said it could promote it to rot

I've got a shefflara been in water since last August. Got big thick roots but no top growth. What's going wrong?
@GrowParadise Жыл бұрын
Some Schefflera will only put out new leaves once a year, it depends on the species. If it has enough roots it might be time to pot it into compost.
@tarahj23759 ай бұрын
How to treat the rot if it started . I didn’t let the plant dry after cutting. I put it straight in water and dealing with some darkening of cutting that’s working its way up . But roots are growing rapidly
@Tommytoolsqueezer3 ай бұрын
If the roots were formed, you should of put it in soil, no need to keep it water if it’s rooted

what plants can i water propagate please? Thanks :)
@GrowParadise Жыл бұрын
Most plants with soft green stems, not woody ones. Some succulents will root in water too but you will need to let the open cut callous over for 2-3 days first.

Always manage to get my cuttings to root really well in water, but the minute I pot them up into compost they start to die. Lost a few a luxurians this winter after potting on.
@GrowParadise Жыл бұрын
Yes, some plants are better at this method than others. Begonias often have very fine roots that are susceptible to stress. I find that putting the newly potted Begonia luxurians on a heat mat helps a lot.
@rajeshwarichaganti6450 Жыл бұрын
Just thinking, adding soil little by little to the water may prevent stress🤔
