Those tanks SURE are thick. I learned a hard lesson and snapped a good pair of Jilson shears. I broke down and bought an angle grinder and it worked like a charm. Even with the cost of the Jilson shears (RIP) and the angle grinder, it was still A LOT cheaper than buying a wood stove.

Take the valve out with a piece of pipe. Find a piece of pipe that fits barely over the nozzle. Use the pipe like a Wrench to spin the whole valve. You don't have to remove the guard around the valve first either. Get it to move and it'll spin off by hand. Hit it with a hammer just the wrong way and its no longer round. If you cut the valve guard off first and you can get a pipe Wrench to work. I'm not bashing the hammer in any way(probably own 40 myself, don't ask) I'm always amazed when someone unscrews something with a flathead and a hammer. My brain says poundy-poundy does not equal spiny-spiny so I never even think to try. Oh yeah, Ratchet strap the tank to whatever you can. The front tire of your Honda Accord could work just fine. Loop the strap around the tank 2-3 times to keep it from spinning. I make a couple of other things with old tanks and I'm interested in this no welding version.
