HYDRO FISTS GO!!!!
Hey guys! for this project I wanted to try out the Blue Robotics T100 thrusters I got off of kickstarter a few years ago. These thrusters are mounted to the wrists rather than the hands but the title is just so the video can relate better in the results to Rudolph Maker's "propellers to the feet" video which ultimately inspired me to try this!

small inflatable boat and a good size kite would be the better package, you could "sail" and the sail 150ft high also serves as a beacon for being spotted. add a dagger board to the concept you could tack to travel upwind if wanted. CO2 cartridge auto inflate 2 person capacity, this idea starts to rock.

They couldn't beat even slight current or probably even normal waves on a windy day. Plus whirring sounds and electricity has a tendency to attract sharks. Not that that is necessarily a problem, but it might stress you out.

Snorkelers and SCUBA divers use booties and swim fins so their hands are free. Putting the thrusters on your ankles or calves would allow you to take pictures, hunt with a spear gun, collect rocks or shells, or whatever. I like the thrusters because they are self-contained. They look safer than exposed propellers. Another concern is salt water, which you did a good job protecting your rig from.

Without actually testing this, putting fans on your feet may have the same effect as flying with thrust from your feet. It makes everything so imbalanced. The Hacksmith ran into this problem, and is why Gravity use hand and back mounted jets. Having a slightly larger ESC on the back could work for thrust and a central stabiliser with the two smaller ones on the arms to be used for better directional control when required.

Peter thats really pretty smart setup little setup you need to get your patent pending :) Would be interesting to see if you could get Blue Robotics to send you half a dozen and see how many is the optimum number and where on your body to put them.. I was thinking if you had two/four on your legs too for speed and then use the the ones on your arms for direction that would be great for scuba divers to use! Loving the channel though 25k subs will soon be 100k with the interesting mix of stuff you're pumping out.. :D
@matthewchoy7712

Or you could use your legs to steer like rudders.
@TheWebstaff
@TheWebstaff 8 жыл бұрын
Matthew Choy Rudder? I take it you can rotate your legs in their sockets then? You weirdo.. ;) ahhh you mean ailerons..:D hehe arms have more dexterity and would allow for fine movements and also can be used for rapid rotation of the torso which then does bring in the legs for use as a rudder (relative to the surface) and the ones on the legs for speed and power so I could whip about under water.. So yes as per my post 6, 4 on legs 2 on arms for those reasons above.. The important thing is just MORE POWER!!!! :D

I once made a homemade underwater scooter out of two trolling motors, a 3ft section of 10" pvc pipe, and three gel cell 12 volt batteries. It was awesome and I even took it down to over 180 feet of seawater here in CA. It even looked good as it was all painted white and the prop guard was shaped like a manta ray. There were two handles in the front on of which twisted for variable power and a T-bar that locked it at the crotch. It was so powerful I used to haul my dive buddy down with him holding onto the top of the T-bar.

G'day, I was kind of expecting the Cables to get sucked into a Duct as soon as I saw the setup...; but I'm a bit of a Smartarse. The concept of trying to mount the Thrusters on the Forearms is highly questionable..., it means the two Thrusters are able to pull in unco-ordinated separate directions, so it wastes energy & complicates Control issues. I suggest mounting the ducts on the ends of a Wooden "Hydrofoil" maybe 18 inches accross, with Handgrips on the Trailing Edge, and a Throttle-Trigger for each Engine, ideally with proportional control rather than a 3-position "Slow/Medium/Fast/" selector. Please yourself, but if you could then replace the Rectangular-Prism Battery-Box with an Elipsoidal "Football-Shape", and relocate the more streamlined Container to the centre of the "Hyrofoil" with the Ducts on it's ends & the Handgrips at the Trailing-Edge... Then, it might be a fairly practical accoutrement, at least till the Battery goes flat ; especially if you had Flippers, a Schorkel, and a Weight-Belt to ballast yourself to achieve neutral buoyancy.... Just(ifiably ?) sayin' , ;-p Ciao !

+PeterSripol Cool, thanks for replying...! To collect your reward, please report to my "SunFoil Project Playlist", and have a bit of a giggle at the "SunFoil Thermodynamic, Aerodynamic, & Solar-Thermal Ramjet-Effect...." Video... I claim to be the only Mad Scientist ever to have built Road-Registered Street-Legal Electric Solar-Thermal Ramjets which actually did save a measurable amount of Fuel...! I have a "Personal Aeroplanology" Playlist, as well...; because I'm one of the people who used to levitate in the 1970s with a Lawnmower Engine, and I occasionally threaten to make a R/C Model of my first Aeroplane, pretty much because the original survived to be hanging in a Transport Museum (!). When I was young, it was cheaper to buy a 3rd-hand Minimum Aircraft which one could sit in, than it was to buy a new 4-Channel R/C Model, and Hang Gliders were considered " almost normal"...; my own personal "claim to fame" is that the Wright Brothers had a better Aeroplane in 1903 (12 Hp 4-Cylinder 4-Stroke, 3-Axis Controls, 2 Chain-Reduction driven "Handed" Propellers which were Counter-Rotating to eliminate Torque & Gyroscopic-Precession & P-Factor Effects, and Double-Surface Aerofoils with built-up internal Ribs..., the 1903 Wright Flyer was a pretty elegant bit of Design...) than what taught me to fly in 1978 (8Hp 1-Cylinder 2-Stroke, 1 Chain Re-Drive Prop, All-Flying Elevators & Rudder with a lot of Dihedral, Single-Surface Dacron "Sails" with Bolt-Ropes running in the Tracks of the Sailboat Masts which served as Leading-Edges - and Cambered Full-Chord Battons in Pockets sewn into the Wings...). I really enjoy watching your "Wildman Aerodynamics" type Projects...; and I'd quite like to see you have a go at a propper R/C Dirigible Airship, using the "dreaded" Hydrogen rather than any kind of Multicopter pretending to be a Dirigible Aerostat. Helium hasn't got the required Lift, and Hydrogen's not actually that dangerous (Meterologists use it for Weather Balloons, and when did you last hear of a BLEVE'd Weather-Forcaster...?)... You're the Aerodynamic Wildman who flew a R/C Aircraft Carrier...; and if you read "Slide Rule" by Nevil Shute (Norway) then I reckon you could make a delightful flying scale-model of the Vickers R-100, which made a successful Proving Flight to Canada before being scrapped after the R-101 crashed in France on the way to India...(Government Departments designed & built the R-101, whereas Private Contractors hatched the R-100...., it's a great bit of History). Anyway, Have a good one ! ;-p Ciao !

those thrusters would be very awesome on a paddleboard with a face hole (mask and snorkel) to scout cool spots to skin dive at. power assisted surfboard (use webbed gloves too) for busting past incoming waves quicker. on a board one unit might be fairly zippy and more than double the run duration.

School won't make you an inventor, but taking electrical/mechanical engineering will set most people quite a bit forward with this kind of stuff. And it's not like an arts degree, you'll actually have well paying jobs available to you with if inventing doesn't work out.

Actually electricity and water go fine together it’s the conductive salts in the water that electrocute you and the reason he is not getting shocked in the salt water is because the wires aren’t exposed and they are insulated keeping the electricity from coming in contact with the conductive salts in the water therefore keeping him perfectly fine

Peter, excellent project. For your next trip, I'd like to see each thruster be self contained. I know it will double up on the Arduino and batteries, but with no trailing wires or clunky box to wear, they'd be more aerodynamic and less prone to Stephanage.
