I definitely recommend putting the screws back into the power supply as it makes it easier to remove the cover the next time the PS3 has to be cleaned. I tried to remove the cover and accidentally pulled on the power supply. I hope I didn't damage anything.

If I clean out my ps3 will it fix these 2 issues I’m having -It sometimes shuts itself off during gameplay -Sometimes when I turn it on it instantly shuts itself off Both of these cause the light on the ps3 to not display till I hit the power button again then it turns red. I also got the YLOD one time when playing BO2 but it hasn’t done that in at least a month -Update After cleaning out my system and following along all I can say is.. wow, this actually fixed all of my issues, no YLOD, no shutting itself off, and when I turn it off and back on it doesn’t shut itself off anymore, there was a lot of dust in my fan and in the disk slot tray, I didn’t spray it but pulled out the dust I could see, thank you so much for the help, I didn’t want to spend 80 dollars to have it fixed by Sony even tough the system was filled with dust, It’s also so silent now, when I play black ops 2 I can slightly hear it but it’s not noticeable at all, I really appreciate showing us how we can make our PS3 last longer and fix my system, I gave you a sub for the thing you did for me, you deserve way more subs than this. Thank you so much!

I wished I thought of this with my phat PS3 model instead of giving it away after mine got the yellow light of death as I feel like I could of saved it. And funny enough, my Black Ops 2 disk could of got stuck inside of my dead PS3 if I didn’t eject and grabbed it right before my PS3 gave out completely for the last time.

Thank you for the video! I learned two things: (1) How to clean a PS3 (2) That I'm incredibly impatient and need to watch the whole thing before I do something. I sort of tuned out at the part where you shouldn't spray air into the disk player. Luckily for me I had a disk in there and I think that's the only reason why the disk player still works. Thanks again for the video you probably added a few more years to my PS3.

The Ps3 was the last unique, premium console. I had 4 xbox 360s, the last one rrod'd 2012. I bought 1 ps3 slim in 2012. Still have it and play it, even online bf3! Microshaft blows.
@ClovisX3 жыл бұрын
this PS3 was a good build it will also die thanks to the dust just like your 360's did it just has wider vents so it takes a little longer, unfortunately, the PS4's have taken the place as the worst system on the market for breaking downs and all fail just as fast as all the old 360's did, they are just less repairable by KZbinrs because there is not a comment solder problem like the 360's had thanks to the new single-chip design so saying Microsoft blows when their systems are outlasting the PS4's and 5's 20 to 1 is just sad.

@@darflame69yt12 Because he is a moron, sorry but it is true, his experience is from the point of view of an end-user that does not know shit about how electronics or how they work and that is obvious, it is unfair for him to say what he commented on my channel simply because he never performed any proper maintenance on his systems and they all took a shit. It does not mean they were defective or bad and as for his PS3 lasting a little longer it is likely because he had less playtime on it or his air quality improved a bit IDK but what I do know is that the PS3's all of the PS3's regardless of there model all had the exact same problems and I do mean every single last problem all the Xbox 360's Did and all them problems was and always has been a direct result of dust buildup on the heatsinks in the system, it is a fact of life that all the older systems having 2 very large chips that had to be cooled by air flowing threw a heatsink and no way provided or even suggested by the manufactures to perform proper cleaning of an air-cooled system is what killed them all, it is a simple fact that any and every game system even to this day that has a heatsink needed to cool it that is choked out by dust is going to die no if's and's or but's. Seriously how long do you think your car will last if you block off its air-cooled radiator or how long do you think you will live if someone blocks off your airflow?

Do you have to hold the fan blade to keep it from moving while you blow canned air through it? I read before that the fan can damage and sound loud if you dont keep the fan still while cleaning it on a Ps2, so was wondering if that's true for Ps3 cleaning?
@ClovisX5 жыл бұрын
A little sping is fine, but yes any game system no matter what kind it is can be damaged if you spin up the fan blowing air into it NOTE: Using canned air is better than nothing, I do not recommend canned air it just is not strong enough to get the dust and dirt out of the system even if it is disassembled, an Air compressor set to 40PSI is best.
@feelalive82043 жыл бұрын

@ClovisX3 жыл бұрын
If you follow this video there are no exposed components that can be dislodged or damaged. NOTE: If it makes you happy to do it the way you are doing it, no worry as long as it gets cleaned out so air can freely enter and exit the system you are golden.

I do not show opening the Power Supply because it is the one thing in the system that can burn down your house you should stay out of it, for cleaning use an air compressor set to 40 PSI and blow out the dust if it is chocked out with cigarette or pot tare replace it. Don't be stupid and open it for any reason.
@dallase14 жыл бұрын
How can it burn down you house when it's un plugged and has been un plugged long enough to discharge the capacitors (which would not be a fire hazard if they were still charged) and all you do is blow dust off the circuit board part and rinse the plastic cover in water when it's disassembled and totally separate from the electrical part and you let the plastic case dry completely? I found a video on how to open it and opened mine when un plugged for over an hour and cleaned the plastic housing by running the 2 halves under running water and then drying them and cleaned the power supply it's self with Q-tips and a compressed air can. All is fine no risk whats soever of a short or fire. It's not like a CRT Picture Tube that can still hold a charge strong enough to kill even after days of being un plugged.
@ClovisX4 жыл бұрын
@@dallase1 That is were the 110V AC is converted way down to 12V & 5V DC if you touch or bend or damage anything inside it has the potential to cause something to fail that would not normally fail or short out and explode into flames the moment you plug it into the wall so it is best if you just blow it out.
@dallase14 жыл бұрын
I did that but after opening it and was careful to not damage or bend anything. I'm experienced and knowledgeable in PCs and electronics so I know what to do and not to do but I guess the average person does not know that and that is why you don't recommend opening the PSU.

This is was a customer PS3s in for disk drive work [Not Mine], normally I would do this cleanout in the shop but for you viewers, I did this in my inside office because it was already scratched up on the case and it did not matter if I scratched it a little on the shelf, and ("No it is not still alive") The customer did not believe me about regular cleanings and called a year 1/2 later with a red light that he tried fixing using a heat gun made to remove paint from furniture learned from some other idiot KZbin Videos posted by fake uneducated A'Holes trying to fix it and sadly murdered his system. Although I have 100's of older PS3's I repaired for red or yellow light problems and or cleaned or fixed for various problems that the customers lessened to what I told them about the need for cleaning and are all still alive and have had very few to no brakedowns for disk drives, hard drives, or power supply problems and not one with Red or Yellow light yet. Why? Answer: because they come in once every 6 Months as prescribed

Is there a easy way to clean the rollers that pull in the disc? Because my ps3 struggles when inserting a game
@ClovisX5 жыл бұрын
I do not recommend you open your disk drive because most of you will destroy it just opening it and just so you know your problem may not even be caused by the rollers it would be best if you take your system to a qualified repair shop one that has a repairman that actually went to school for component level electronics repairs even if it is only for a disk drive that is mostly gears because an unqualified person is going to use a KZbin video and try and fix something that is not broken and charge you more after they damage it trying to fix something that is not broken the same as you will likely do if you try.
@ClovisX5 жыл бұрын
@nikola zazzoslki this video does not tell you to remove the fan! it is not necessary! only pull the power supply out so you can get to the backside of the heatsink then blow out all the dust and that's it.

@@ClovisX Any chance of you making a video showing how to take it apart even further to replace the thermal paste ect? Or are you not interested in making a video going that far incase people who don't follow instructions toast it? Do you even recommend doing something like that if you keep the device well ventilated? From what I heard it can be extremely difficult to replace the thermal paste in every area that needs it so would it even be worth it? I'm leaning towards just not messing with it so I figured id ask.

@ClovisX4 жыл бұрын
@@mattstone4499 You should use an air compressor on it not caned air or vacuums it should be set to at least 40PSI and checked to be sure there is no water spitting out the end of the sprayer end the system needs to be disassembled for proper cleaning but if you don't feel comfortable doing that going threw the vents only is better than nothing.

@ClovisX4 жыл бұрын
@@spikediesel2489 I am not going to make that recommendation but if you decide to go on eBay or Amazon to buy a replacement know this if the drive in the system you have has a Circuit Board you must remove it and install it inside the replacement drive or it will never have a chance at playing a game ever again and I would recommend you not do it have a shop do it or you will just waste your money.

the safest and easiest is what I show and explain in this video anything else you do will likely not work or end your system taking something apart you are truly not qualified to do even the KZbin educated repairmen around in Game Stop shops kill 30 or so systems just learning how to clean them using KZbin before they have some success

lots of reasons for overheating some of them are not even shown on KZbin I recommend taking it to a qualified shop that is willing to show you proof of education in electronics as they will likely be the only ones that can fix your problem but with the age of that system, it may not be worth bothering with other than a home repair? 5$ for a cleaning even though you are licensed? Wow, that's cheap, can't believe it Still gonna clean it at home :p Also, is it just fine if i blow into it, i mean i don't have access to canned air in europe nor a compressor, i live in an apartment block?
@ClovisX4 жыл бұрын
I offer it so cheap for several reasons first and foremost the vast majority of you trying to clean the systems at home will do one of 2 things 1. Not clean it properly leading to the premature death of the system & 2. Flat out kill the system or damage their system causing a very expensive repair. The 2nd biggest reason I offer it so cheap is because, it keeps game systems from braking down and so keeps them out of my shop so I can educated individuals that do not know how much longer a system will last if they keep proper maintenance of there systems. Yes I make less money doing it like this but I am not doing this to get rich because I flat out do not want to be rich I am happy with my life; Unlike most.

Can i use one of those CompuCleaner dust blowers or is it better to stick with a regular canned air?
@ClovisX6 жыл бұрын
That depends on the type of dust in the system I find that an Air Compressor set to 40 PSI works the best, canned air works as 2nd Choice the dust blowers very widely from manufacturer to manufacturer and there uses if you get one check to see if it is blowing at least as strong or stronger than a Can of Air. hope this helps
@ClovisX6 жыл бұрын
Sorry I do not allow links unless they're mine, so I removed your last comment I did look at it and I am not familiar with the one shown as I do not use them type of dusters ever. But if you are following my video you will have no worry about blowing off any components because very few componets are exposed and I guaranty that an air compressor set at 40 PSI is stronger than that thing.
